Long trip not much Time?

Guy's just lookiing for some thought's or advice, here's my problem.Have to go out west end of June have to work till Friday in Pa. need to be in Wyoming Monday morning and fresh.Second problem would love to take my bike for later in the week when I have time.Was thinking of straping it in the back of my Avalanche [my concern is rear wheel will rest in center of tailgate] do you think this would be a problem? I would love to rideNorth& South Dakota, and Wyoming again.Never traveled with bike in rear of truck before looking for opinion's. Thanks

How would you load and unload the bike? That would be the most difficult part.
Do you have locations to hook your tie-down straps?
If you are worried about the strength of the tailgate a couple doubled up 2x10's would put your mind at ease.
When I load my bike I use a loading dock.

loading and unloading with a freinds set of alum. fold up ramps if needed.The place I would be using as a home base while there I know has a nice bank to back up to.Tie down locations,There are 4 points front and rear of box which should secure bike.Your plank idea might just work,will consider it maybe even a dry run is in order.

Take a good look at the tailgate cables if the bike will be on it. Chevy had some issues with cables a few years back, the ones on my Silverado were recalled, after one broke load a friends riding lawnmower. If it were me and there was ANY sign of a crease, I'd spring for new. The 2x10 idea sonds good also. Have a safe and fun trip

just an update,trip went great only problem was Chi-town hour and 1/2 across.Two days of driving was in Custer S.D. KOA unloaded bike {manager made a great place to unload a bike by the way] Took care if business had 6 great days of riding.Maybe had 3 hr's of rain in those days.Glad I decided to to it.Bike hauled great on short Chev Avalanche,rear wheel on first 8" of tail gate was no problem.With 4 heavy duty tie-downs it never moved.Put 3500 miles on truck and 2000 on bike.Going across Rt16 and the big horn mountains was great even got to play in the snow, Yellowstone was great lots of wildlife and it was clear to see the Tetons.After the Tetons the road over to Debuios Wy. was a great ride also, but there was constrution and the road was tore up which keep the speed down.Well thanks for the input before hand.Happy riding
