An off the shelf engine cleaner does not seem to do too much for me.

I have a small hand held steam cleaner that I have been using for mine. It might sound like a bit of overkill, but it has worked very well and relatively quick. I use it with a long bristled brush and just plain water in the steam cleaner.

I am interested to hear what everyone else is using. If there is something quicker or easier, I am all for it. I just used what I had available...

An off the shelf product made by Autoglym and simply called Motorcycle Cleaner. Terpene based (smells of oranges). Spray it on ,rub with a brush and hose off.No problem. Do not let it dry on black engine assembly paintwork as it can cause a lack of shine. White spirit/turpentine may be better for any hard bitumen spots.

Dow Bathroom Cleaner....scrubing bubbles, two inch paint brush and water. On asphalt have to use a disolver first........

Spray Nine and a 1.5" hard bristle brush. Also, have a 3/8 inch test-tube cleaning brush for getting into the crevice by the exhaust port Don't leave it on too long before rinsing and don't get it on any other painted or black parts . . . the stuff is evil

Must one be careful using a steamcleaner on the engine? I've read somewhere not to use high pressure around the engine as it might have a negative inpact on certain gaskets (head).
