Hi Folks!

Just for reference...

I recently received and installed a Leo Vince exhaust system from Viets Performance ([email protected]) for my 2000 R1100R:

- The Leo Vince number is 6457. Most reference materials list this as an system for the 2000 R850R, but Leo Vince in Italy confirmed that it fits the 2000 R1100R also. (I suspect if fits many other years also.)

- The system replaces the entire stock system from the header back. That is, it replaces the catalytic converter and the muffler.

- The install is smooth as silk. The only possible area of confusion is the arrangement of parts for the canister hanger. That info is buried in the type approval booklet included with the system.

- The system includes a small baffle disk. It installs in the front of the canister, presumably to reduce noise levels. I installed it without the baffle -- and I do NOT like loud pipes -- and the sound levels seemed quite acceptable to me.

- The stock left bag fits with the Leo Vince system.

Review? The components appear to be very high quality, and the fit was perfect. Sound levels are reasonable, and my butt dyno -- as notoriously unreliable as it might be -- says there's some small improvement in mid-range power.

For me, the change was primarily for cosmetic reasons. The stock system looks like a mechanical slug from a Transformers movie. Ugh.

I don't like the Leo Vince exhaust. Moreover the feedback about these from fellow riders in oilhead forums in Germany are not the very best ... Have a look at the Bodis exhaust on my R1100R (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=15550). That is the real exhaust ... However be prepared to open your wallet big time ...

It's an odd thing. The Leo Vince system is certainly lighter than stock, but only by five, six, maybe seven pounds. But I swear I can feel a difference.

Also, several other changes are contributing to the "empty" look. The carbon canister has been removed. The windscreen has been removed. The valve cover guards have been removed. And the signals have been changed from orange to clear.

All of the changes reduce the visual mass of the bike, and to my biased eyes, it's a much better look.

it is common believe that the bike gets faster when louder We know this since our pubescet youth don't we? But fact is that very few aftermarket aftermarket actually output more power or torque. Whenever people with aftermarket exhaust got their bike tested on a dyno (preferably before and after changing the exhaust) they usually get a nasty surprise. And the Leo Vinci is no exception. It'll give you more power ONLY when you change the mufflers as well!

Understood and agreed. Still, I did my testing on a standard stretch of highway I've been using for testing for three decades and easily a dozen different bikes. Conditions were normal, and the bike set up was otherwise the same. (One other difference... I had the bags on the bike. I would think that would hurt -- more frontal area -- but it's hard to know for sure.)

So, why the difference in top end? I'm beginning to wonder if the stock catalyst was in some way obstructed. That would explain the top end change and the poor mileage I was getting with the bike.

Other attempts -- valve adjustment, throttle body sync, et al -- had failed to cure the mileage issue. It will be interesting to see the mileage with the new exhaust.

Ahh come on Dave. Don't worry about the mileage. There is no better way of burning fuel than with your olihead ... And who cares if the fuel consumption is slightly higher I just burn the stuff and don't care if it's a little more ...

And at $2.50 a gallon (about half a Euro per liter) here in Pennsylvania it's easy not to care
