Blue Ridge Parkway

Were one of yous guys playing up around the Blue Ridge Parkway near N.C. Hwy 276 this Saturday? Two or three times I saw a very dashing Crystal Grey R1200R going the opposite direction much faster tan a black one could have gone.

I was there riding my crystal gray with a friend who was riding a F650 Dakar. Was there a Dakar in the lead?

I did not notice the PD. We stayed at the two wheels only campground in Cruso. Nice place.

I was out there both Saturday and Sunday on the North end, black R1200R with a Parabellum. Saturday alone from North end to Roanoke and Sunday with a gray R1150R and a couple of Guzzis from the North end to Roanoke and back to Buena Vista (Guzzi Rally). Goos news was that the bicycle traffic on the Parkway was light, I'm really getting to hate (I know it's a strong word) those people.

I was riding my new R1200R Granite grey metallic from Marion, N.C. up NC 80 to the parkway, to Mt Mitchell, down 215 to Rosman, to US 64 to Cashiers, Franklin, NC 28 to Deal's Gap and the Dragon back to Nantahala, over Wayhaw Bald, back to Sylva, back on the parkway up to Blowing Rock then home to Waxhaw-nice 680 miles in two days-spectacular ride!!!

We stayed in a campground off of 191 in Asheville about 1/2 mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, then went off the Parkway and hit 276 toward Waynesville; then we took 19 through Maggie Valley and past Bryson City. West of Bryson City we took 28 south to Franklin and then took 64 back to 191. By far, the best road was Highway 28 especially the northern section as it's very twisty and lightly traveled by cages. There were quite a few bikes on 28 primarily sport bikes as you could get up to pretty good speeds without worrying about a slow moving vehicle being around a blind corner. I traveled from Raleigh and my total trip was 800 miles. I had a great time and would be willing to meet up with some of you for a ride, let me know. I need some training on those down hill 20mph (posted) corners though.

Too funny. I've ridden appx. 1000 miles over these same roads this past week on day rides. I saw several GS's, Kay's and then 1 RT followed me up 276 from SC and we said hello in Brevard. +1 on the bicycles. Great folks for the most part, but almost as bad a road hog as cruiser groups and rent a motor home drivers. Love the 20+ degree temp drop riding up into the higher elevations this time of year.
