Wire Harness Warning - Fix This Issue ASAP!

I have a 2003 R1150R with only 3200 miles on it and was shocked today when I went to replace the QD's on the fuel lines. I looked at my wire harness and found an accident waiting to happen. The harness was zip tied to the frame so you will have to cut the ties to inspect your bikes. Please double check your bikes for this issue.

Thanks for the post - In checking my 2002 out, I found wire harness zip tied on both sides of the tank, and absorbing a lot of presure in the process. After cutting and re-sip tying, it's much better. This discussion board has saved my bacon more than I can count! --Steve

I'm sure you would have noticed this but...while you have the tank off, check the
left side of the bike & inside tank also.
When I did my QDs, I noticed a large, bundled & folded portion of the wire harness, zipped tied almost 180° across from the location in your pic, had been rubbing against the tank and actually scrubbed the paint off...down to bare metal.

I'm glad I did the upgrade...no tellin' what would have happened in another couple K miles.

You are well advised to take JM's suggestion. For a description of what will happen if you don't, look here:

You should also check harness in the area near the left rear of the battery tray. The corner of the tray can dig into the harness there, as happened to
toolingalong.
I promise you a little time spent on these checks is well worth it.
