I would appreciate non-interstate route ideas from Atlanta to Albany, NY area.

I don't know any good non-interstate roads all the way but 301 through VA, MD is nicer than I-95. If you happen to come 95, go the speed limit coming north through Richmond City as it is a safety corridor and it is patrolled heavily.

I live in the southern Catskiills, moved here from Albany and grew up in Poughkeepsie, so I know the NY piece a little. A lot will depend on where you come into NY and how much meandering you want to do. If you come into NY at Port Jervis, 209 is an OK 2 lane ride up to Kingston, then take 199 N over the Kingston Rhinebeck bridge and 9 up to Albany, but 9 is a little boring.
I f you come into NY farther west, 20 to 30 to 42 to 23 A to 23 to 32 offers a great ride through the Catskiills and along some beautiful reservoirs. It is, however, a fair bit of meandering.
Give a holler when you get into NY.

Not to belabor the obvious, if you like scenery and are not in a hurry, there's the Cherohala Skyway-to-Blue Ridge Parkway-to-Skyline Drive route. Leaves you off near D.C., but with room to jink west to miss the traffic.

US23, to US64, to US221, to US220 gets you at least to State College, PA. I didn't look much farther than that. It just depends on how much time you have.
NoRRRmad's route is good too, but has a fairly low speed limit.
