As a newbie to the R1150R, mine is an '03 and quite an upgrade from my '71 R60/5 which I owned since new, I'm wondering if there are handguards available like you would see on the GS? I took a cold ride about a week ago and the heated grips helped but the only cold spot was the backs of my hands.... I'm still looking into a taller windscreen but I have to wait for my other two shields to sell.......

I have to mention that I saw the R1150R at the Toronto MC show when it first came out. I sat on it and decided that this was the first bike that fit! The seat height is a tad low as I am 6'2" but no other machine has felt quite this right. And with an R1150R I have material for "Talk Like A Pirate Day" ARRRRR!!

I just fitted GS hand guards to my R today :D They need a bit of a nip and tuck to fit, but no big drama.
And if thats not enough, wack some Tourateck hand guard extenders on for a bit more protection.

A related question: would the hand guards interfere with using a throttle lock? I have a Wunderlich throttle lock that I like very much. I wouldn't want lose it to have hand guards.

Well, since I started this.... I came up with the el cheapo version of the Throttle Meister: 3 of the beefy rubberbands from the claws of the poor deceased, but delicious, lobster, stacked on the right hand bar end and just pushed snugly to the end of the throttle hand grip. AHHH, relief for the right hand :D

Yes, a throttle lock does work. Call Bob's Bmw in MD. they will sell you the correct one for a R with gs handguards. if you are a cheap s!@#$!@ like me, Bob's will sell you just the right side instead of making you pay for both bar ends like some others!
