Can anybody tell me if the shocks on theRockster are the same as an 1150 GS.

dunno about the GS, but I DO know they're NOT the same as the R1150R.

R1150R shock is about 5mm SHORTER (off the bike) than the the standard Rockster shock. (I know cos I've got one on my Rockster at the moment. )

That equates to about 1.5" larger gap between the rear tyre and the ground when on the centre-stand, so the bike would be dragging it's arse on the road.

Mine doesn't drag it's arse though cos I've got a GS length Paralever arm so the bike is (more or less) at the OE running height. With a standard Rockster shock and the GS Paralever arm, both wheels are touching the ground when on the Centre-stand.

It could be that the GS & Rockster shock lengths are the same. Be useful if so.....

Rockster and GS shocks have different part numbers.

GS shock is 33532335725

Rockster is 33537666917

Standard R1150GS shocks are significantly taller than Rockster shocks. You’ll need to fit a GS side stand, centre stand and Paralever strut if you’re fitting GS shocks.

Not to tease everyone, but I recently had some custom shocks made for my bike. Not Ohlins. Not Wilbers. I hope to have more of a review for you in a few months, when the salt is off the roads in my area. PM me if I forget to come back here.

Oh well, it was worth a try as I could get a set of Ohlins shocks off a mate in the Spring, when he sells his GS.

Ricey, I too have the GS torque arm, waiting to get it sprayed black before I put it on the bike.

Do you have a FLAT garage floor??

With standard rear shock and GA Paralever strut, the rear wheel will be touching the floor (*just) when the bike's on the centre stand, assuming the floor is FLAT.

Take care if you use the centre stand when out and about - trick is to find a spot that's convex.

FYI, I had my local Ohlins suspension specialist rebuild a rear shock originally built for R1150R Roadster for fitment on my Rockster. The same transformation should be possible - and not too expensive - for modification of GS shocks.

Also, I used rattle can textured flat black for my shorter GS Paralever strut. Not exact match for Rockster black, but close enough to require careful inspection, and $5 cheap.

Interesting..... my local suspension guy told me the Rockster shock wasn't rebuildable... (yes the R-R shock is different to the Rockster but you'd think they'd be the same construction.)

yeah... let me clarify:

My Ohlins specialist rebuilt an Ohlins R1150R Roadster rear shock to Rockster specification. Required different lower shock body and change of internal shim to address effective shock length and stroke.

Alas, R1150R Roadster & Rockster OE shocks are one-time use throw-away garbage.

If you need your origonal shocks overhauled I believe Steptoe at the GS Shop can do it.
