MRA screens

Is anyone on here using either of these screens, I am planning a big trip in the summer and was wondering how these screens performed. I am looking to reduce wind noise in our helmets and buffetting to make the long highway runs more comfortable. I am about 5' 11" and Petite Pillion is a bit shorter.

I have the one in the second image for my naked 1150R. I like the looks but I am constantly adjusting the upper deflector. Not sure if it makes any difference at all. The only thing is that I think that at some positions I get less rain pelted at me but that could be just the angle of the rain itself. I would like to see a wind tunnel chart to see if it actually makes a difference. Good luck but with my experience I think you would do better with the model in the first picture. :-k

I have the second as well and also question whether adjusting the piece on top has any impact.
Also with that one, I use the handlebar mount but there is a version that uses the standard BMW flyscreen mount (or something like that).
The handlebar mount was tricky and I'm still not happy with getting everything symmetrical.

For what its worth, I have tried the touring screen, no screen at all, and now the fly screen.

The fly screen looks the best but leaves you with some buffeting, the touring screen keeps the pressure off your torso at the expense of a lot of buffeting, and no screen at all leaves you with no buffeting, but a lot of pressure if you intend to ride much over 70 mph for long periods of time.

Unless you are doing the autobahn, I would suggest you at least try the bike for a day ride without any shield. I would be hesitant to commit to a several day ride until I tested the idea over a weekend trip, but I was amazed at how clean the air was. Riding without the screen taught me what buffeting was all about. Long runs at high speed would presumably be wearing though.

Just a thought.

I have the top Vario screen. I'm 6'2" and it protects quite well with limited buffeting. I wish I had bought the made-for-an-R1150R mounting brackets instead of the universal ones shown in the picture above. They hold pretty good but apparently the dedicated type don't clamp to the handlebars but instead bolt to the upper fork clamp plate somehow. I think it looks cleaner. The air goes over the top of my helmet with little turbulence and I would buy it again if I needed another. One thing though, I'd get a clear instead of the smoked I have now. Even in sunny Florida the tinted shield does little and at night it does restrict vision a bit. John Greenwood

I have the smaller MRA screen without the small lip on top, I find it works very well for me 5'7", I have it angled so the air hits me just below my helmet which is good for quiet riding and just enough protection to take some wind off my torso. I suppose it would be a lttle cold if your riding in late Fall.

I have had the smaller Vario (2nd.) screen on two bikes now and generally find the design to be
suited to me. I'm only 5'8" so can't comment on what it's like for a taller guy! I have the version,
Mod.#44814, that is fitted to the original BMW screen mounting hardware.

I was just about to go for the smaller Vario screen, especially as it uses the existing BMW flyscreen mounts, but now I'm not so sure based on some of the feedback above.

I'm 6'2" and was looking for less buffeting (and noise) on the crash helmet......and I hate wearing earplugs !

Also want to stay with a smallish screen and the MRA seemed to promise a great deal. Any more positive reports on this screen to make me part with £110 ($160) ? :D
