I just did a 200+mile road test with my new F800GS mirrors. These are the Farkle of the Year for me! Not only do they look really cool, they actually make the bike a lot faster. All other mirrors I now consider obsolete. Anyone want to buy my old K1200R mirrors, cheap to a good home?

ka5ysy, for photos, check GeezerBike's excellent post titled "New Look." It was his photos that inspired me to buy mine, and I could do no better. And have courage, Mike: the snow will melt soon!

It's funny, I was looking for the k1200r mirrors a while back and the deal didn't come to fruition. Honestly, I was kind of happy because I had seen Geezer's "new look" post and thought the f800gs mirrors fit the look I want perfectly. Can you tell me how the mirrors are in terms of vibrations? Better or worse than stock?

My opinion: Vibration with the 800GS mirrors is way less than with stock, and a bit less than with the K1200R mirrors. I think it's because the stalks are shorter (the shorter the stalk, the less the vibe). My right mirror is dead clear, and the left mirror only blurs a bit at certain speeds/rpms. The mirrors are essentially clear from 90 to 110 mph. They really do make the bike faster!

OK, here's a PS for anyone thinking of buying these mirrors: buy the "clamps" with the mirrors. They're not the same as the stock clamps, and you will need them.

Thanks for correcting me. When I got mine, my parts guy ordered them with the 800 compression fittings, but BMW wouldn't ship as a complete set, so he ordered them separately. We never changed the base that was mounted to my bars that the compression firrings thread into, just the compression fittings. And when we swapped them on the floor, I just unscrewed them from the 800 and screwed them into the RR. I hope my bad advice didn't screw anyone up.

I just picked up a pair of the F800GS mirrors the other day at my local dealer. They had one pair in stock, apparently an older part number that's been superseded by a newer part #. I could take what was in stock for $50/mirror or pay $75/mirror for the latest part number. Looking at the mirrors they had in stock, I couldn't tell the difference so, I bought 'em. Had to order the clamps, so the total cost came to $130. I've got a small pile of parts needing to get installed, so I'll post pics in a few weeks. Nothing we haven't already seen before, GS Aluminum cylinder guards, the mirrors, and a sport screen. But a drastically different look for my bike than what it's been.

Oh yeah, anybody looking for a set of stock mickey mouse mirrors? Would love to get a bit of the new mirror cost reimbursed.

I just joined the " I have F800 mirrors" club today and I have to say they are a huge improvement. Not just in looks but in form and function as well with no vibration. Seriously, I can actually identify cars behind me now instead of seeing a blurry shape. BMW should make these standard on the bike......

Those incredible German engineers put those black oversize dentist mirrors (I love em) on your handlebars for reasons we are not capable of understanding. (Same reasons as that huge gap between the rear tire and fender) --- beware - you will ride another 200 miles and turn into a fireball!

Could someone who's switched to F800 mirrors please post the part numbers all the parts needed? I'd like to place an order online at Chicago BMW soon in the hope they arrive by fall.

I called Chicago BMW and told them I wanted the left and right mirrors for a 2009 f800GS, and the compression nuts that go with them. I should have also asked for the rubber boots that cover the compression nuts. The guy looked them up, ordered them, and they arrived within 2 weeks. No problem! But thinking about it, I probably should just have got them from my dealer. It would have been faster, no shipping charge, and the 20% discount wasn't that much anyhow. Support your local dealer!

Thanks for the link. I see two part numbers for the same left mirror (51167715863, $54; and 51167715861, $70). Why the price difference?

I think one is for just the mirror, and the other is for the mirror and all necessary hardware.

Good point. It's about a $20 net difference between Chicago BMW and the local dealer.
