Exporting to New Zealand

Post by John S »

Hi All,

Took a job in Auckland,NZ and would like to take my US breed 2004 r1150r -- all stock except Laser exhaust. The folks down there keep talking about UN/ECE certification for the brake components. Called BMW and they flat-out were not helpful. Any ideas if I am going to have to do any modification? or the likelihood it may be OK? and I won't have to sell my baby.

Thanks for taking a look and any advice.
Best,
John

Hi John

I'm based in Wellington NZ and my R1150R was an import from Japan. I'm unaware of any issues with respect to getting certification for the brakes - If you get paperwork to import the bike (over a certain number of years there'd be no tax) you'd just need to get the registration once over here and then a warrant of fitness (vehicle fitness check every 6 months).
