Folks,

Where do you sit in the saddle? On my stock high seat, I'm as far forward as I can go, that's where I feel the bike best, my lower back hurts least, and that’s where I always end up. This being said, it's painful there, in a number of places! Thirty minutes into a ride and I'm squirming. An hour and I'm stopping for coffee.

Why is there a flared butt shaped portion in the seat? Is if for the riders butt? Is that where I should be?

Ummm... yeah, that's where I sit. The Sargent conversion moves the bucket back about 1" from the stock position, so I'm not right up against the curve, but I'm very close to it. I would imagine all sorts of pain problems if you put all your weight on a small section of seat like you describe.

Try moving back a bit..

I agree. I am most comfortable as far back against the step as possible. That's why my seat sloping forward (due to the missing front bumpers) causes a problem - it makes it hard to stay back on the seat.

Seems you're not alone, David. I also have this issue, but didn't want to mention it because Chitown would tell me to take my balls out of my purse and shut up, or something. Kids these days...

I tend to sit as far forward as I can also. Better control, because to me the forward lean is too much and I put too much weight on the bars if my butt is back in the comfy part of the seat, even with barbacks. For my body the ergonomics are a bit strange - like it was designed for an orangutan... your arms need to be REALLY long, and your legs REALLY short.

And yes, sitting on the hump on the front of the seat is uncomfortable. That's why I plan on going to Rich's to get the foam reshaped.

Yes, that. All has been said but I'll add that I thought the seat was a joke when I got the bike. I like it now, got used to the bike's riding position, and have no plans to upgrade it. I can ride for quite some time without feeling the need to stop. Where it does lack is when I have my wife on the back.

I have been experimenting about where to sit and I like sitting as close to the tank as possible. And it's kinda uncomfortable. IMHO I like close to the tank because...
1) minor back problem
2) more control
After an hour I need to get off my bike for a break because of my back. But riding close to the tank gives me the least pain. Also the bike's Center Of Gravity and my COG being forward as possible seems to add to the bike's stabilty.
On you tube there is a guy named Captin Crash of Idaho (I don't know) and it looks as if he is right up against the tank. He's got lots of good advice and rides his bike like a unicycle.
Likely everyone or most have seen CCrash on utube.

+1 for preferring to sit near the tank. When the boys start squawking I scoot to the back. About 15 minutes at a time in each position makes them both pretty tolerable.

I am a short guy (5'6") and I have a Sargeant low seat conversion. Where I sit ussually depends on how fast I am going. When just cruising, I sitting forward close to the tank. If I feeling like going fast (80+mph) then I tend to scoot back away from the tank. Majority of the time though, I am sitting close to the tank since that gives me the most upright comfortable position.

This is how all female passengers should sit.

ps. I think my seat would be alot more comfortable if I had a backrest like that.

Until my wife rode up beside me, anyway...
