R1150R maintenance and repair in Northern Virginia

I recently bought a 2002 R1150R ABS. Does anyone on know where i can take it in Northern Virginia to get it looked over? I am neat the Tyson's Corner area of NoVA.

There is Morton's BMW in Fredericksburg. Not sure if there is something closer.

Yeah, Morton's is the closest of the BMW shops. There is a place in Alexandria that once did work on BMWs, but the owner/head mechanic passed away and no one there seems to have taken his place with the necessary specialized knowledge. Of course, they might suffice for basic matters.

If you are willing to go a bit further, there is a fellow in Charlottesville, VA who works on BMWs and some of the inmates here have spoken on him (I can not recall his name or contact info, but an on-line search should bring up his info). Also, there is Matt Crawford in Richmond. These last two may be best for saving some money (vs. the BMW-dealership shops - Morton's and Bob's), plus they are more likely to be willing to help you learn a bit about what they're doing - making you more knowledgeable about your own bike.

There's also Anton Largiader, in Charlottesville. A bit of a "hike" but, he's a trustworthy guy, does really great, conscientious work.

He won't tell you need stuff you don't need, and he'll go over your bike carefully. Taking care of the additional "piddly stuff"(ie, tighten this, lube that), as needed, while he's doing other maintenace work, without charging you an additional shop hour, etc. If he says your bike is sound, it is, if he says it is in dire need of "x" or will need "y" sometime in the future, you can trust that it is.

You just missed a BMWBMW club tech day in Haymarket, on Saturday. Check the club forum for the details on the next tech day. There are always knowledgeable folks around to assist/guide the newbies in doing their own maintenance tasks.

Actually, Bob's BMW in Jessup, MD is about 20 miles closer to you than Morton's (roughly a 37 mile drive vs. a 56 mile drive from Tysons Corner).

They are both quality places.

I've also used Anton, and he's a straight-up fellow. His prices are much better, but he's over 100 miles away.

Thanks for the help guys. I took it to Quality-Motorcycles over in Alexandria. I asked him to put some Road Attack tires on as well as look the bike over and fix anything that needs to be fixed (http://www.quality-motorcycles.com). I will let you know how it goes and about the quality of service.

As DMM noted, Lap apparently died a couple of years ago, which I didn't know, so it sounds like his son is keeping the place going. Lap had a good reputation, even though I had never gone there, so I'd be interested to hear of your experience since it's by far the closest place.

Actually, I think Battleys is closest to the Tysons area. BMW dealer, that is.

Laps' shop is still open, and I think his son is running it? Maybe I'm wrong...

Like Lion Lady said - you should bring your bike to the next local tech day - you can get just about any service needed at one of those.

That's the guy I had in mind. I've never gone to him, but I've noted a few people here giving him good reviews.

Next local tech day? What have I been missing? I'll have to look into the BMWBMW.

I had a pretty good experience at the Quality-Motorcycles place in Arlington. I just had them look the bike over and put some new tires on, but it was a pleasent experience and I would not have a problem bringing my bike back to them in the future.

If so, I checked their web site and it appears to be upcoming in June. No specific day has yet been chosen; however, it will be in the location of the snowed-out February tech day.

Sad news. A lost resource for riders in that area and lost jobs for those who worked there.
