Anyone had this happen before?:

Trying to remove the primary plug coil-cap yesterday to service the valves - I managed to break 2 of the stupid plastic removal tools, AND chew up the head of the coil-cap while trying to get the stupid f***king moronic idiotic out-of-place, car type thing off the bloody plug.

Short of utterly destroying the stupid mis-placed damned thing in the removal process - by using Mole-grips on MAX..... can anyone suggest any other ways of removing the thing without destroying it???

I have considered undoing the valve-cover itself and "bashing" the plug cap off - but that WILL damage the DIN-connector built into it.


Alternatively - has anyone seen or read anything online about ditching the things and installing another coil (presumably fired by one of the leads going to the coil/cap??) and using normal HT leads.

I hate these stupid coil-caps - they're stupidly expensive, designed for a dry, water-cooled environment (under a car bonnet) and thus totally out of place on an aircooled boxer twin motorcycle engine.

I use a set of long nose pliers but am very careful not to squeeze too hard on the pliers. I normally put my hand or my hand and a thick cloth between the pliers and the covers to prevent damaging the covers. Have had no problems yet.

I had no luck with the removal tool, so I just gently pried them out with two flat-blade screw drivers. Works really well.

I have also used the two screwdriver method, removing the lead from the coil makes it a little easier. I have also found that the coil tends to get stuck to the plug if it is not removed now and againg. I usually slide them off when I do amn oil change to prevent sticking.

Ditto the screwdrivers technique when OE plastic "tool" fails.

Not aware of documented stick coil hack, though topic was discussed here last year. Bought a set of single spark plugs wires to ponder the stick coil bypass option. Another long-term ownership project.

Tried that - that's how the end of the coil-cap got chewed up... :(

Will have to have a ponder.

The silver-lining to this story is that currently the bike is purring like a particularly well fed Bengal tiger having it's tummy rubbed by it's favourite Buddhist monk.....



I've never known it run so smoothly.
