Anyone here riding to the Rally? Any plans for a gathering?
I plan to ride out from MI and would enjoy meeting some of the many voices heard here and comparing machines.

If all goes as planned me and the missus will be there. No plans to meet I've heard of, but the beer tent seems a likely spot...

BTW, I'm staying at a place that doesn't appear on the BMWOA list. Recommended by a former Bend resident who is also staying there. I got a good rate, but it was some time ago. In case anyone is still looking it's the Sugarloaf Mt Motel at: http://www.sugarloafmtmotel.com.

I plan to leave Sunday from southern IL. Will take northern route out (MO, IA, SD, WY, ID, OR) and middle route back (CA, NV, UT, CO, KS, MO), avoiding interstates as much as possible. Planning to camp or stay with friends, and will use old-fashioned maps and route list under plastic cover of tank bag. Don't trust them new-fangled GPS to take me where I want to go.

Beer tent sounds good. I'll be wearing a red carnation.

Beer Garden, Friday night. I will be there. I am not sure about the carnation. If we arrive naked as Mollygrubber sugested I have nothing to pin my carnation to and my hands will be busy trying to maintain my modesty.

I will be at the rally on Wed afternoon. Black bike (the fastest color) with blue pinstripping and a Scout fairing.

Say, I've got an idea as to where to put that carnation....

I'll see if I can find one of those "Hello, my name is..." nametags and put my nom de plume on it.

I can see the naked thing will have logistical problems.

Where are you going to keep your wallet and beer tickets?
A great majority of people look much better with clothes on. I've never meet you but for the sake of others I usually keep mine on.

Well folks, we're leaving for the Rally soon so I'll wish you all safe travels who are attending, and I hope to tip a couple and tell some lies Friday night. I will be sporting a label maker R1200R sticker to aid the cause.

Sounds like a great location for a ride and ralley. I am unable to attend. The Pacific Northwest is probably stunning right now. Please send Pics...no 'carnations' please.

Beautiful week for the rally. We've had yet another cold, wet, long Spring, so clear and warm is appreciated here in Oregon. Stopped by the rally today after a couple hours ride in slow tourist traffic... Redmond is only 120 miles from home, so a day trip is very do-able.


Will post some crappy BlackBerry pics when back home tonight. Saw a number of R1200Rs, a couple of R1150R bikes, plus handful of F800S/T.


Primo farkle hunting for those inclined.

I just had a report from a fellow MOB member... Something about a beer tent. He said it was in the 90s. But a dry heat.....
They were having a good time.

Just got back from the Rally, Wife on her 650 twin me on the R. We rode from Seattle down the coasts of Washington and Oregon, swung on over to Crater lake and then to the Rally. The weather was Hot in Redmond but we rode in the morning from our Hotel in Bend to Mt. Bachelor and there had to be 2-300 BMW's of all sorts there. The Rally was ok but I didn't camp there so I can't comment on the entertainment etc. but I did attend a couple of the seminars (cornering and David Hough's talk) and they were what you would expect. We ended up staying in White Salmon Washington last night and the ride back home today along the Columbia river was the most wind I have ever rode in, wow, I just stayed planted dead center in the lane to give me room for error! I absolutely have to say Oregon has some of the best riding in the country twisties, scenery, etc. hard to beat it.

Oh, and met some great people too and saw some some great classic bikes.

We had fun too, it was a great time.

I was particularly impressed with the BMW factory stunt rider whose name I have forgotten... wow, that guy is amazing! And the S1000RR is pretty sweet too...

The English trials competition was very entertaining, and there were some good travel seminars - the Hackney's were great. We were excited to talk to Tiffany Coates, a Brit who is riding around the world and one of our inspirations...

And it may have been a dry heat, but man Thursday was freakin' hot!
