2011 model

Post by Don C »

From a French web site. The text indicates that these pictures are computer generated, not real. Still, they are worth a look.

Looks like they are going with the F800GS mirrors. A smart move! Now if they would only spec the comfort seat as stock...

My 2009 "R" just passed 20,000 miles, and seems suddenly to be running even smoother and revving up more easily. What a bike!

Remember that this is computer generated and may have nothing to do with reality.
I was trying to translate a Korean news article this morning that mentions the new R, it seems to be saying that new bike will have more retro styling and more chrome. But no pictures. Yet.

More reading of tea leaves, but still no real pictures. From Italian site Motobuzz:

In Cologne, BMW is playing at home and certainly will not lose this opportunity to raise its voice. Apart from the arrival of the six-cylinder podeosa think there are also other news. One might concern the R 1200 R even though it may be appreciated Infreschi. At this point the graft HP2 engine already used on GS and RT seems obvious, but a report in the French site MotoStation (citing reliable sources) the new R 1200 R with radial-valve engine may have a decidedly more aggressive look the current one will become a sort of German Monster. So it could also be plausible that the current R 1200 R remains in range. A naked HP2 of the rest may also have a why. In Cologne, little miss, we'll see if the French have taken us.

INTERMOT ended yesterday, so I'm gonna go with a negative, Ghostrider, on a 2011 R12R. (Our model was announced at the 2006 meet-up.) Plus, you've got the F800R on the boat shipping over as I type.

I did see something on another site (that I can't seem to find again) that mentioned that BMW was "keeping some powder in reserve" for the EICMA show. That's only a few weeks away.

I talked to a dealer principle last week who was at BMW 2 weeks ago for some training and I asked about the 2011 R. He said there is talk of one coming in the spring next year that will have the new heads. Time will tell. Things are changing at BMW. They are dropping all of the little dirt bikes for lack of sales, and interest. They had new demos G 450's at the Falling Leaf rally last week that were going to be sold for $ 5,000 each. List was $8,500. Max BMW also has a bunch for sale. A few went to Louisiana. Husquavarna will also probably be going away to a new owner when the market improves. I would think that if there are only X amount of 1200 motors available, BMW is going to put them in a model that 1. sells well and 2. brings a big bottom line profit. Can you say GS ? Next big question is will the new K1600 GT / LT kill off the K1300 bikes ? Sale of those models have slowed alot in anticipation of the new 6. It ought to be an interesting next couple of years at the Mothership.

Eicma news...
BMW
After the K 1600 GT / GTL at Intermot, BMW Motorrad comes the new R 1200 R, not only with the new twin cam engine, but with a 'beauty magazine. Interesting then, a single-cylinder GS with the usual style, but even more we expect a good concept of those who love them to Mom BMW. Drum roll for the House Ethics then.

Looks like they fixed the mickey mouse ear mirrors and the ass end looks nice. Seat also might be fixed. Appears that this is a very nice start. I, however, like the color. Thanks.

That's the blinged-out version of the current model. BMW celebrated 40 years of production at the Berlin plant. Note the "40 Jahre Berlin" pinstripe on the tank. I think they made one or two and auctioned them for the Children.

I'm surprised they didn't include the milled levers. I do like those milled telelever caps, but at ~$30/each, it's hard to justify that degree of bling with the spousal.

+1 - and it's the "old" engine, not the DOHC.. so it's not an '11..

I believe they also did one of these in the fastest color - black with white pinstripes. The photos were around about 2 years ago or so..

UPDATE: It's bogus. See the posting that follows for why.. it sure suckered me in.. :)

That's NOT the real deal. For a much larger version of the photo:

And

Image

Link to 1024x768 version: http://www.omnimoto.it/mwpImages/photog ... 2011_2.jpg

The reason I think it's the real deal - look at the plastic bit from the tank to the rear under the seat. The shape has been subtly changed from the 2007-2010 shape - and no one is doing that change in photoshop...

I take it ALL back. The article this came from was dated 12/9/2009.. and I used Tineye to track down the photo they used to photoshop the new head on the engine..

Image

From: http://www.motorpasion.com/bmw/bmw-r-1200-r

BTW - if you don't know about "Tineye" - visit http://www.tineye.com/search/f227375fdd ... e5561cd45/ and see the results of the search (only good for 3 days..) Useful tool if you want to track images around the web. Try clicking on "Compare" under the first result to really see how good it is..
