R 1200 R

R 1200 R Classic
Generating perceptibly higher torques, the new boxer engine provides an extra boost to temperament. Whereas the boxer in the predecessor model had already provided superior propulsion under all conditions, the new BMW R 1200 R models can deliver more on top. Derived from the BMW HP2 Sport, their new boxer with 1170 cc and DOHC valve gear corresponds to the engines already installed in the BMW R 1200 GS and BMW R 1200 RT.

Same signal switches!

I've been dreading this day, . . . . I'm lusting after those new cast wheels and the new smoke grey. I don't even want the new heads but these new R12R's are seriously sexy! My own R12R is barely 6 months old and I'm already looking at other bikes (the KTM Duke, R800R and F800GS are all now on the short list of candidates for an additional rather than replacement bike). Sheesh, the honeymoon isn't even over and my eyes are starting to wander . . . .
I'm a complete pig with no redeeming qualities.
cheers,

I'll have to read that press release, but my first reaction is "cutesy, but I think I like my '07 fine".

Dammit! Here I was, perfectly content with My 2009, not even worried about the new models.
And then BAM! I'm hooked. I'm a sucker for that center stripe scheme.
Dammit to hell!

coming from a person who just PAID for a new/leftover '09, today,
-i like the gauges very much, so much so that i'd like to know (already) if it's something i could have installed on my bike
-i don't dislike or crave the cast wheels, and actually love the the less modern look of the alum wheels on my '09. they seem to fit the "standard" look of the R12R.
-i love spoked rims, but they really do belong on more true retro styled bikes, or bikes of old. and if they're going the tubed route, then i really don't care for them at all.
-the paint scheme is one that so many manufacturers (Ducati GT1000 comes to mind) have used...again, on much more retro styled motorcycles. has BMW ever used that type of striping on earlier bikes though?
-did i already say that i loved the new gauge cluster?
-the motor i'm neither here nor there on. for "my" purposes the SOHC suits me just fine.
just my .02
regards,

I'd love to see what the red one looks like. If they had upgraded the switchgear I think I'd be a little poorer, but with a nice, speeding ticket red roadster!

I was expecting more radical changes. This feels like a facelift. All the options are the same. I do like it, especially the mat gray and am looking forward to a test ride, especially how it sounds with the new can. Lots of subtle refinements: bigger forks, more sculptural handlebars and a centered instrument display. The center stand is now standard. Looks as if the windscreen mount was redesigned. I can't believe they kept the same indicator switches.
Now the big question is how much.

Webster, the cosmetically different and larger fork tubes do look much better in my eyes.....nice catch, and nice touch.
also, check out the difference in the oil pans.....one is painted black, the other silver (i actually love the standard/time tested silver).

I think the new instrument layout is a vast improvement over the present configuration. The present location of the rather smallish tack makes it almost impossible to watch the RPMs and the road at the same time, I've bounced off the rev limiter a few times because of this.

The pix look to show a low seat yet to me....the rear section looks to have way more padding. Odd, except for the grey one pictured above the others don't have a chicken strap on the seat; which are the ones that appear to have more padding.
Like the instruments. Although I like the previous rack.
Hate the oblong mirros....not very classic looking. But that's easily changed.
Like the white strip down the middle of the black tank but that could be done on anything.
They got a little more on top end with the DOHC....ummm...okay.....but not so necessary, as long as it doesn't hurt the low end grunt of this stump puller.
Being a knee dragger the only thing I'd do different on an R1200R is reduce the wheel base by a couple inches.

Perspective.
Pros:
Everything I would farkle on an R12R now comes standard on the classic.
Love the new redesigned instrument panel
Low, low seat (750mm) would be a great option for my inseam challenged body.
Love the new colors (all are WONDERFUL ... love the Black/White)
Cons:
$$$
My '07 is farkled about like what I am seeing ... except for maybe a paint job.
I am also going to wait to see what "bugs" exist in the new models.
Wondering if the new shorter seat (750mm) would fit on my bike?
Have all of the bags, top case, etc.
'07 is 40K miles and it purrs like a kitten.
Believe my Cons outweigh the Pros right now .... but man, what a NICE look! I think I am with HJSBMW and will keep my '07 for awhile.
