Vaccum Lines- confusion

I have just removed my tank and forgot to mark the vaccum lines. One of the vaccum lines has "X" 's marked on lines. I am hoping "X" to "X" is the right connection. Can anyone confirm this ??

By blowing a puff of air (do not suck... that would be bad) through the tubes, you can figure it out. One of the lines is just a drain for rain water that collects around the gas cap.

The tube that you can blow through, on the tank side, connects to the line that drains by the right foot peg. Unless, it is plugged up... 8-[

The other tube, on the tank, will make you feel like you are trying to inflate the gas tank. That tube connects to the charcoal canister system.

I'm very good at doing things like that, so have developed a simple
system that usually works with no thought required.

When I disconnect things like that, I do it so they'll only go back
together the correct way. I.e. I leave the hose connector in the
forward end of one and the rear end of the other. On my gas line
QD's, I installed them in opposite directions so they only hook up
one way.

Otherwise I'd always be standing around scratching my head.

Great tip, I think I will flip my QRs around while have the tank off and do the same for the vaccum lines in the future. I do think the one vaccum line that has has the "X" marking stenciled all along vaccum line makes senses to conncect to the other section of the vaccum line with the same markings. Does everyone agree??

The bikes came from the factory with the fuel line QD's alternated. If they aren't that way... somebody else has been screwing with them.

I have no idea about the X's...

Blow through the tubes connected to the tank... the one that you can blow through... connects to the tube that goes down. The one that you can't blow through... connects to the tube that goes back to the charcoal canister.

Got it. Try the experiment and was able to determine which vaccum line that air can go through and confirmed my idea about the X markings. The line with the "X" markings is the same one that goes down and not to the canister. I think this X markings is the OEM from the factory and they probably used these markings to avoid the confusion that I am experience. took a picture of the "X" markings on the vaccum line but I am having trouble uploading.

iowabeakster is correct about the test method. With the fuel cap closed, a blow thru the small tank hose that should be connected to the street drain hose will hiss (and maybe gurgle/spit water) out the left side of the fuelcap. The other one quickly builds back pressure as it "inflates" the fueltank. To make the correct connection permanently idiot proof, for when someone else works on your bike, place a small ziptie really tight on the upper right and lower left hose ends that are attached to the straight plastic fittings in That Pic.
