Does anyone have experience with both the 510's and the 1100x driving (not fog) lights? I have experience with 1100x and like them alot. Looking for another option that provides at least similar if not better lighting pattern for (primarily rural) night riding that can be left on in face of, and without blinding, oncoming traffic.

What about LED's? Are they now the ticket? Seems like the dual and triple settings some of these lights provide would be useful.

Finaaly, I have pretty much ruled out HID's because they seem to be too good (there's that oncoming traffic problem again) but let me know if you feel these are a good option.

Do a search in ADV and you might find a comparison between the 500 series, 1100x, and latest LED options.

Given the R1150R Roadster's large headlight reflector bucket, I can only imagine the light output if HID light source is installed. There's some info here related to such endeavor:

We tried a variety of bulbs in our Roadsters (R850, R1100 and R1150) with varying degrees of success. Same for the re-wiring trick a la Eastern Beaver.

If we still had a Roadster with the old school headlight, I'd be very curious about performance using a conventional D1 or D2 HID (not the H7 "replacements" that slide the HID capsule back & forth to emulate the H7's dual filaments). It's possible that a rebased HID capsule would not cause the mounting depth problems reported in the above topic threads... of course, that would mean the headlight would have fixed output (no switching from low to high beam), but the light output increase would be significant. And yes, the result might throw some glare due to the HID capsule's characteristics.
