Hello To All,

I just bought a R1150r 2001 model, pick it up next week. It has a lot of K's on the dail 183000 but I could not resist the price and condition. She is pretty much immaculate for a 10 year old, and only one owner who obviously loved her. The service record is faultless continually looked after by the place I have bought it from. I am a bit concerned about the high kilometers does anyone have any feed back on how the R1150R copes with high kilometers, I am hoping I am not going to get caught with a rebuild or something soon. Any input would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers

Paul

Welcome Paul!

You have picked a great board for information on the R. That equates to roughly 113,000 miles and while that's certainly not low miles I have heard of BMW's with far more. If the owner and dealer did the recommended services then probably all the bases have been covered. Hopefully you have read over some of the threads on this board concerning major failures. The two that get most press are clutch spline failures and final drive failure. The former costing much more to repair. I hear of no engine failures at all unless it's related to allowing the bike to sit and idle for long periods of time with no air flow over the cylinders (a real NO-NO). At your mileage(kilometers) I would ask have the clutch splines been checked and/or lubed (most likely not an issue since machine has gone this far) and lastly I would check play in final drive. The link below gives some info on checking for that. ABS is the only other area that can get real expensive. You did not say in your post if yours has that feature. Wonderful stuff that ABS till it goes out! (not common though)

Hope this helps!
And again welcome.....................oh, and be wary of anyone telling you to check your bike's antifreeze!!
