Rattling brake rotor on front wheel

I've had my '08 for about three weeks and 1000+ (mostly) happy miles so far. Shortly after I bought it (dunno why I didn't notice BEFORE), I noticed the bike makes a hell of a rattle when going over bumps at slow speed. The rattling noise is one of the rotors on the front wheel. These are floating rotors, but one of them floats a bit too much. I can grab it and move it around quite a bit and it is the culprit of the rattling noise going over bumps.

I had new tires put on a couple of weekends ago and asked the dealer (BMW of Denver) to have a look at the loose brake rotor problem. I was told it is not a safety problem and the only way to fix it is to buy a new disk for about $300. This because the mounting hardware was changed since 2008 (probably because of this problem) and is no longer available. The new brake disks are backwards compatible but the original mounting hardware used is unobtanium.

There has been at least one other thread on this subject and it seems the answer was the same then: it's not broken. Sure drives me nuts though.

So I'm just living with it until I have $300 lying around, but wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, did you fix it, and if so, how?

I have 2001 Rt1100p and my rotors are noisy too.
I mainly notice it when back out of garage.
Rotors expand and contract when they get hot and cool off which is why they float.
