Back from Meat Cove. Was riding dirt/mud roads and got some interesting pictures;
The next time I go up there the bike will be wearing Pirelli Scorpions.
The Fenda Extenda didn't prevent mud from packing in the oil cooler, but the lack of air flow didn't seem to affect the oil temperature at low or high speed.
Can't figure this one, but the hugger had more mud on the top of it than under it. The shock didn't get too muddy.
Rear drive seal started seeping about 1K miles from home. Will order new one in the morning.
I made the mistake of trying to ride back roads across Vermont and New Hampshire. The damage to the roads is major and it will be quite a while till the nice roads are restored or even passable. My sympathy to anyone that lives in the area.

2683 miles round trip from New Jersey to Meat Cove, NS and back.
This last tank of gas overall vs moving speed shows I wasn't wasting any time and I didn't stop much. Max speed is an indication that I was tired and bored and found a GT Mustang to play with on the GSP. Last days ride was 650 miles.
I camped on the way North every night and as this was a 'rolling rally' (Salty Fog Rally - Google it) I camped every night in Canada. On the way home I hit a motel because I road well into the dark hours,because I wanted to make the border, which I did. Big problem on the trip was that many of the back roads that I usually travel now have major sections destroyed because of Irene. Some of the damage to the roads is unbelievable.
I have to replace the seal then I'll wash it, I kind of like a dirty bike, shows it's been used properly. I would guess it will take two full days of cleaning, to get it back to it's 'normal' condition

I took some pictures but not a lot. Two of the guys on the ride were professional photographers and they are going to get together and send CDs to the people that went on the ride.
I hesitated to post anything about the trip because some people on this list in the recent past have objected to posts of a non-technical nature. The post was to address concerns we (folks on the list) had early on, about air flow through the air cooler and the fact that the location of the oil cooler made it a great target for mud and stones. Apparently even packed half full of mud it works just fine, although the temps only got into the low eighties.
But - here's where we camped at Meat Cove. The two guys on the right are looking straight down about 250/300 feet to the ocean. With a strong wind blowing out of the West anything that wasn't tied down headed straight for Ireland.
