I prefer the look and there seems to be less buffeting.

1997 K1200RS. By some incredible twist of fate, the planets all lined up and the color actually works perfectly. I don't even have to paint it. And I'm not even kidding, the buffeting seems markedly less.

I think I like it! From that angle at least. Do you have any pictures from the side of the bike? Also, did that bolt straight on, or did it take a little bit of modification? If it's not too much work, I think I'm going to start looking for one of those fenders right now.

I'll post some more pics later today.

Zero mods. Pull off the old fender and the plastic bracket. The new one slips right in but also screws into existing holes at the bottom of the fork. The top screws go in at the same place but are a different size. You'll want to get them with the fender if you can. If you don't, I can pull one of mine out and give you the proper sizes. They don't appear to be a special size or head shape. I looked at it again this morning and smiled.

What's the brand and size of windshield is that? BMW brackets or aftermarket/brand?

Also, what's what's that curved plastic on the side of the tank?

The windshield is a 21" Parabellum Supertour that has been specially modified. The mod thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24035

I used the lower brackets that came with it, but then used some stock BMW Flyscreen brackets that let me lean the shield back a lot more. It greatly reduced buffeting.

The curved things on the tank are AeroFlow Tankwings. They, along with the modified fairing, make for an almost quite ride. Certainly much quieter than stock. MUCH. My ears don't ring anymore!

It's actually some kind of slightly lighter gray but it doesn't have the blue tint of Ferro. But it looks good.

If the Parabellum Scout I ordered ever actually arrives some time in the distant future, I'm going to paint it Ferro and I'll paint the fender then too, as well as the plate that takes the place of the rear seat. I may go crazy with the Ferro and do the rear fender in Ferro as well.

xdot,

When you get the fairing mounted please let us know what you think of it? and what size w/shield you used? Maybe a few pictures?

I now have the BMW touring shield..it's OK..somebuffeting.

I just picked up a Wunderlich sport fairing, brand new. I'm going to mount it & see how it feels? It will need paint as well. My "R" is dark Ferro, & it is white.

waitin'on Spring....Ron

Has anyone ever tried fitting the front fender from a R1100RS [99] to a R1150R.[04]

I always liked that fender, had the motorcycle,.. Nothing against the 'beak' but just like the other more.

It sure does look good and your observation about the wind buffering should be expected.
The "BEAK" was especially designed to direct more air to the oil coolers.
It would be OK for the cooler areas, but in the hot weather... I don't know :-k
I have an aeroflow tank wings on my bike and riding on the hot days, I do feel the heat from the oil coolers.
Especially riding in the rain, my glasses get fogged up really fast.
So, it all "take a little, give a little"... ;) ;) ;)

[-X I don't think this is true and here is why: The Rockster has the same oil coolers but no beak. As far as I know, they are not more prone to overheating than the standard R's. And if the beak was for that purpose, would BMW knowingly remove it for style points? No, the beak was always ornamental and looks okay. It's just... funky.

After seeing Xdot's and duegi's post's I was inspired to finally get rid of my beak too. I found one on ebay that already matched my color, so I went ahead and joined those guys and got rid of mine too. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the old beak, and my low seat that came with the bike.

Just save the low saddle and beak for now for selling it down the road. You might have a vertically challenged buyer who likes the beak...

Early model K1200RS. Bolt on replacement. Best place to find one is either ebay or beemerboneyard.

I agree. I've never heard of any Rocksters overheating from not having the "beak", also the oil coolers are in a location that will get plenty of air when the bike is moving whether there is a "beak" or not. It's been in the 70's and 80's here all week, and my bike has yet to overheat or act differently at all.
