ABS Brake Failure fault

I have an 02 r1150r. I have only had it for about 6 months and am still just learning the idio syncrasies of this machine. I just completed my 24k service and all went well. I also just replaced the battery. I live in Mass. and since it has been a warm winter, I am still riding to work when able. I was all set to go to work one morning and my bike would not complete the diagnostics after starting. The brake failure light was flashing fast. I could not find anything obvious and just put it back in the garage because I needed to get to work.
That evening I checked all the brake fluid levels, looked for leeks (I just installed speedbleeders) and could not find anything obvious. Tires spun freely and did not see any loose wires.
I then went in and turned the computer on. I looked at the many different forums for some insight. After doing alot of reading I felt ready to strategically go after the problem. When I turned on the ignition again, I looked at my brake light and saw it was on. After looking at my rear brake pedal I saw the thin metal bar that touches the brake pedal when it is depressed and gave it a squirt of contact cleaner and wiped it clean. I turned the ignition back on again and I then heard the sweet sound of the servo initializing. Problem resolved.
I am suprised more owners don't have this issue. This thin metal strip is out there exposed to all the elements. I plan on cleaning this sensor with every oil change.
Thought others might want to do the same.
