Good evening everyone,

I am going absolutely crazy with the r1200r mirrors: They always come loose after a while, they are impossible to adjust and tighten with these 3 bolts insane system. Are they any aftermarket parts including clamps, offering a much easier adjusting and tightening system? I had these fixed twice at the dealer, and any pothole (I live in New Jersey...) makes them loose. Then it becomes dangerous on the highway. I hope there is a solution. Thanks in advance for any information on this.

I've never had a problem with loose mirrors but they are only secure if you have the arms pointing a fair way forward. I think the thread is designed to tighten up when the arm is at 10 o'clock on the left and 2 o'clock on the right. They are generic in design - you rotate the mirror face for the side you put it on. If you aren't able to get them to 'catch' at the right position the thread may be stripped.

Assuming yours are torqued up correctly, you may have to consider contributing issues. Is your throttle body synch OK? This will cause rough running. Are you running a non-stock muffler? That may be create a hum that loosens nuts. Another thing to consider is how you use the engine. If you run very low revs a lot of the time that may cause vibration.

If it's none of those things I guess you could try a dab of Loc-Tite.

I know exactly what you're talking about; I had the same problem with mine. My solution was to switch to F800GS mirrors and clamps. The mirrors are better, in my opinion, and the clamp is a simple tightening collet which will never loosen up. Order the mirrors, clamps, and rubber thing to cover them and you'll be a happy guy. I think it is one of the very best things I have done for my bike.

Thank you all. I think I am going to go with the F800GS mirror idea. The thread is probably worn out from my trying to fix it too many times. Once again, this board saves the day! Thanks again.

The Tuonos look 100 percent better than the stock mirrors, and they're more functional. Well done, sir.

Sorry, I can't figure out how to insert a picture in a reply. Otherwise I would post a picture. If you do a search in this forum on F800GS mirrors, you will a find a post with pictures.

Now if you wanted to go full geezer nuts put mirror wideners on the last deal. Now the mirrors will be wider and higher because of the wideners and the McMaster Carr adapter. I thought it was ugly until I started using the high and wide mirrors.

I don't care what it looks like, I can see everything, including a sneaky California Hwy Patrol type who was attacking from out left and behind. No vibration. Saved a 500 ticket. Calif tix are about 100-125 but with penalties and court surcharges easily hit 500....

I'm working on a fix to cover the McMaster Car deal; shrink wrap may be an option. Still and all....better to see what's around you. Not cafe racer cool but works for me. YMMV
