When riding i usually have my Info button set at showing miles remaining even though i really pay attention to miles ridden, but i like the display.
Anyway it seems that it would switch on its own to temperature display and the temperature would be blinking for a little bit, what is that all about?
i would switch it back to what i want only to see it 15-20 min later doing the same.

Is it cold there? Doesn't it blink when it's below like 35 degrees as a warning?

very possible, that it was under 35 at speeds around 90, but in general it was about 42

It's a black ice status warning that happens around 37 degrees F -- black ice is more likely on bridges and shaded roads in low 40 temperature conditions. I keep the trip computer set to temperature so didn't realize it force switches. Guess it makes sense as a failsafe. I rode yesterday and saw the flashing temperature throughout.

Ha Ha....I hate to do this to you man.....but....thermal couples dont measure wind chill....
They just measure temperature...which doesn't vary with wind speed.
Wind chill is a function of the human body.

You might get some small increase in temp reading on the thermal couple when stop but thats due to any heat rising off the engine.

Yup... Websterize is right (at least on my '11). The temp blinks at 37 and below. If I pull another function up, it will show it for a bit then go right back to blinking temp automatically.

I just figured the bike was shivering

Lots of cars do it, for example 10 year old Subarus. Liability lawyers talk to each other, thinking up new ways to keep from getting sued....

A couple of weeks back I was in my car travelling at a reasonable speed and the warnings that I received were the steering going very light, the rear end not feeling as planted as it normally is, and passing four wrecked cars that happened moments before. That shouted "black ice" and I didn't need any dash warning to tell me. I'm glad that I wasn't on my bike at the time. I've only come off once due to black ice and that was years ago on a trail bike and just touched the brakes gently on reaching the end of my road to suddenly have me sliding down the road one way and the bike sliding away from me in the other direction. The front forks were twisted and the fix was to grip the front wheel between the legs and turn the bars until it was all straight. I then carried on with my journey (very cautiously!). I guess that that was about 35 years ago.
