I went to the dealer expecting to write the check all along The test ride was merely to confirm all the good things I had heard about the R1200R and be sure that the specific unit that interested me was in fine fettle.

Way over the top on both counts!

It's a left-over 2011 RED with BMW Sport Shield, ABS/TSC, BMW Panniers, TPM, Computer, Heated Grips.

This is my third Beemer and they have all been red. The R12R's size was what appealed to me most. Smaller than most liter-class bikes, yet still more than tour-capable.

Farkling will be a slow, deliberate process. I have been through the process with several bikes now, and I kinda know what I want the end result to be -- and I'm willing to take my time to get it right. Right off the bat, though, I'll need a GPS mount, aux fuse block, and a battery charge connection direct to the battery terminals.

As to the bike and test-ride, I was more than pleased with the experience. I found myself barely guiding the bike; seemed almost like thought control was bending it around corners. Smooth and rheostat-like torque delivery. And I didn't detect any hesitation or surging at any throttle setting, nor engine/road speed.

Haven't yet had the chance to put too many miles on it since I rode it home on Wednesday (in winds with gusts to 50 mph, no less), but I hope to remedy that pretty quickly. Spring seems to be popping early here in the Chicago area.

I appreciate this forum and all of the work it must take to keep it in trim. I hope to contribute in all ways in the coming weeks and months.

Welcome Chuck and nice opening post

I've been hanging around here now for around four months and ordered my R1200R in late Dec. I saw it for the first time yesterday at my local dealer and now I'm even more excited to get my hands on it. Like yourself, after one testride for twenty minutes I knew what I was going to be buying.

I dropped off some items I wanted the dealer to install for me (SKENE, Fog Lamps I ordered from Germany made for the R1200R and dual horns). I'm hoping to take delivery either next weekend or the one after.

So I have run onto a small problem with the new R1200R: I didn't think to make the first service appointment at the time of delivery. I hit the break-in mile range easily enough, but have had to wait to an appointment Lesson learned . . .

In the meantime, I've been able to enjoy the outrageous Chicago (lack of) winter by riding other bikes. RR appointment is set for this Wednesday, so all will be well.

The only niggle with the new bike is that I can't get the left mirror adjusted. The jam nut seems to be so tight to the lock nut that I can't budge the d**ned thing. Tried both directions just in case, but no go. Rather than risk bunging up the works, I'll leave it for the dealer tech to make it work or break it

I'll also be on the lookout for a bit more wind protection; I'm intrigued by the Cee Bailey Sport Screen that bolts up to the windshield frame already on the bike. It looks to be just a touch more than what I have now, and that's about what I want for now. I think.

Other than that, the bike has been a joy.

Everytime I see a red one I wish I had chosen that color. Same thing happens when I see a Alpine White one as well...

Seems to me that all of the current/recent colors on the R1200R have been winners. I could be happy with any of them. And I certainly wouldn't say that about all of the colors I've seen on Beemers over the years
