I just bought this bike from my exboss who has not even started the bike in about 5 years. It only has 5000 miles on it.

I trailered it to my house and have begun the process of bringing it back to life. new battery going in it today. Fuel tank is removed but needs to be drained. (Ideas on this would be helpfull). I am picking up oil and air filters, as well as engine and gear oil on my way home.

So, here is the question... what else should I need to look at / replace before I attempt to fire it up?

Change the transmission fluid and change the Dot-4 brake fluid for the front and rear brakes and for the clutch fluid. I would closely inspect the tires for signs of cracking and dryrot. They should probably be replaced too. It's not good to have a bike sit for that long. If you have the owners manual, it explains how to do the tank removal. It seems tedious the first go around. Is the gas in the tank nasty varnished up stuff? If so, you might have fuel pump problems. Long story short, that's how my bike was stored several years ago by the previous owner. Took it to a local indy shop, and they put new plugs and injectors in it, and it still wouldn't run correctly. He then hauled it to the BMW dealer about 150 miles away, and they said the problem wasn't with the injectors, but the varnished up gas had ruined the pump. New pump, along with further tank cleaning, and it was fine. But, by that time, he sold it to the dealer, and that's when I bought it. Hope it goes well for you!

I would put Seafoam in the gas AND the fresh engine, transmission, and final drive oil to clean things out. I read that it takes three months for oil to drain off of the metal inside an engine, then it can start to rust. Seafoam will help to get the crud out and any moisture. Maybe run for 50-100 miles with the Seafoam in all and then drain (make sure you have a new oil filter and replace when you drain the engine oil).
