Anybody Use the Touratech R1200R/Suzuki Bandit Handguards?

I'm looking to get some handguards for the Winter. I like the look of the GS guards but mounting seems to be a slight hassle. The Touratech Bandit/R1200R guards look interesting, and cheaper, but the picture on their website isn't very good.

Anyone have this set up? Where are they made? Any pics, preferrably from varying distances.

Thanks,

Barry

I am also intersted in purchasing some handguards and have not seen these Tourtech ones yet, so thanks! I have been looking at the ones offfered by Acerbis, and BarkBuster, but I think that these Toutechs look a little sportier than those. If anyone has a pair of these I would like to hear how they perform (protection) and how they attach, specifically on the bar or on the bar end.

After talking to Touratech, it seems the Bandit Handguards do NOT fit the 2011/2012 models.

Sigh. Back to zero. The newer GS handguards are grey and black, not all black, and I think the colors will not go well with my 2012 Classic in black. In addition to being more expensive, I'm not looking forward to the process of cobbling together a fit.

How about these? http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorc ... 10360.html

Even the Wunderlich handguards don't fit the newer R1200Rs...

Max's NH installed these on my wife's '12 R1200R after discovering they couldn't "correctly" install the GS guards. They work well and seem to provide as much protection as the regular GS ones on my '09 R1200R and are cheaper :)

Would they work with throttlemaster?

I just installed these on my 2012 R and they mount to the handlebar itself with no connection to the grip. I can't see any reason why they wouldn't work with one.

Don E. has a thread over on the MOA forum that shows how to mount the late model BMW GS hand guards on a R1200R. Also shows how to install a Throttle Meister at the same time; he even provides a parts list for the Throttle Meister. The install is easy and requires fabricating one small piece out of aluminium bar stock that is available at any Lowe's or Home Depot. I followed his directions and had it done in an afternoon. I've been using them for 4 years without problem. I added the extenders to mine to increase wind protection. Don indicated that when he added them it caused too much noise and/or turbulence. That has not been my experience, but we do use different windshields. Thread is here: http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33037

I have a set of the Storm guards and a Throttlemiester on my '07. They do not in any way impede the use of the Throttlemiester. They also provide decent wind/rain protection. I like them because they are easy to install/remove as the seasons change. I usually do not keep them installed in the summer but do put them on if I go on a trip for the rain protection.

For the money they are fine for what I want them for. If I intended to keep them on full time I would have went through the hassle of installing the OE GS ones though.

Can you post pics of the Barkbusters installed? Do they clear the tank from lock to lock?

Thank you,

Barry

I'm pleased with them after 2+ yrs of use, they are both cheap and easy to install, and they do clear the tank lock to lock.

Yea they do, but you must install them carefully. I went through the whole pad over the tank during the first install and thought I had it right. A couple days later I nicked the left side of the tank with the mounting bracket. The fix was a simple rotation upwards, still was a bag of downers now my precious has a chip in the paint.
