Rear brake question

My 2002 1150R w/iABS is afflicted with the hereditary "flashing lights syndrome". Front brakes function well but rear brakes have no servo help so they slow the bike if applied forcefully but will not stop it. I'm leaving this weekend for a trip of approximately 3K miles so I can't begin ABS ectomy until I return. However, it seems (to me) that disconnecting the rear brake from the servo function and going to manual rear brakes might be an option. The scary part is it seems too simple and, therefore, I must be missing something. What am I overlooking?

Most rear brakes are about as much use as t..s on a bull. If your front brakes work fine just go and enjoy yourself. As an aside...I'm curious....if your rear brake is indeed "broken", how is it the front still works when supposedly they are linked?? I am no expert, just asking an obvious question.

You're right about the usefulness of the rear brakes and I wouldn't let the lack of them deny the enjoyment of riding. However, due to how the brakes are designed (engineered?) to work, in the back of my mind I wonder if the front brakes may suddenly follow the path of the rear brakes. Makes entering those steep turns in Virginia and Tennessee more exciting than my old heart may be able to withstand, lol. Sweatmark or some others will have to answer the question you posed re:linked brakes. All I'm sure about is the servo functions for the front brakes and doesn't for the rear.

I had the same problem and it seemed to be a slightly weak battery. I hooked the bike up to my trickle charger and the rear brakes worked fine the next day. I have a battery bug that is registering 42% capacity so I am just buying a bit more time before I replace the battery.

Description of linked- and semi-linked iABS brakes:

So, you've got a trip coming up next weekend, and no apparent rear brake circuit servo power?
Rear brake switch ok?
Rear wheel ABS sensor and tone wheel ok?
