Clutch Bleed - Static Play in Lever

Yearly maintenance - including checking and lubing splines. So while everything is apart is decide to replace
the clutch fluid. It's looks clean as I drain off the master, being careful not to expose the holes. Fill master with new DOT 4. Then I Mityvac out the rest out of the bleeder in the back. So here is the question: How much play is there in the clutch lever off the bottom until your can't spin the rear wheel by hand. I forgot to check it before I started. The best I can get is between 3/8" and 1/2". If I pump the clutch 10 times quickly I can get about 1" of play before it engages. Then it settles back down to the 1/2".
Thanks
