Found an R1150R to buy, have a SEAT question

Post by Ancon »

Found a good looking R1150R next state over, and the owner mentioned that it's got the low seat. Friend of mine had the low seat, I don't want the low seat.

My question; are higher seats easy to find? I've seen 'stock seats' for sale on fleabay, and C-list, but don't know if those are the 'low seats' or a higher seat. I'm only about 5'11" tall but want a medium/middle seat. Should I overlook this small detail.

Any advice? Thanks again.

My take would be that if the bike is otherwise what you want I'd buy it. the seat is something personal and getting a custom one will make all the difference. I wouldn't care what seat it came with, buy it.

I would consider taking the seat pan to a good MC seat place & having it covered at height you want & have a gel insert put in it. There's a guy that does that. As it sits it is like new seat & a shame to take it apart but if your tall & long legs,well... Depending on inseam you could also use an Airhawk cushion? Also consider that the low seat is well over 30" tall so not low as with a cruiser bike.
FWIW,It is my bike in the questions above.

I'm a little shorter and just went back to the stock seat. You can buy my hardly used Sargent seat if you would like...let me know. Thanks.

I have the stock seat that came with the bike, if your low seat is in very good shape, I would trade with you.

I'm five feet eleven as well and the stock seat works perfectly. Looks like you have someone who will swap with you. Get the bike, you'll love it.

As I said on another post, I'm over 6' 1" and am happy with the stock seat and can get both feet flat on the ground.

Buy the bike. I bought an 02 r1150ra with low seat. Found a "high seat" off an 04 rockster for $70 on ebay over the winter. Fits perfect and I am 5 11. Still I would like to get some extra foam or gel foam in there for better long ride comfort. The bike came with an airhawk cusion . While it helps it's a little shifty under my fat a#$. Does anyone here know any websites of folks that do that kind of work (send in the seat) and add some extra layers. I assume the seat frame is different between the low seat and high seat. Seems that way when looking at them.

I use a sheepskin that velcro's to the low seat on any rides longer than a commute/couple of hours. No shifting & my butt is 69 yrs old & I had the "TMI" surgery too! I glued the "male side" of the stuff under the seat and the straps are on the skin. Rider had a reference to a guy that did the seat inlays with gel. I see seats like helmets-unless there some trying out you never know whats best.

Just bought an '04 R1150R. How do I know if I have the low seat? Is there a particular identification code/marking?
