I have a 2001 r1150rt which has been garaged for last 2 years awaiting new tyress so today I removed both wheels and take them for tyres, on replacing wheels I had to remove pads on front caliper to get wheel located properly .Job done until I started bike and ABs Brake failure lights appear . At first servos were operating ok but after a minute or so I had no servo power to the brakes . If I start bike and apply front brake I can hear servo whine but there is no braking power ,did I need to reset something when I put wheels and pads back on or is it a genuine fault ?

I've pulled wheels and pads many times on my '04 R w/abs and I've never had to do anything nor have I ever had an ABS fault from that. Was the ABS system working normally just prior to pulling the wheels?
The ABS system will give a fault if the battery is just a tad low, is yours fully charged?

It's not you, it's the battery. Even if it was on a really good charger, the 2 additional years added to it's "in service" years likely put it into the reduced capacity of old age. That means that it no longer can put out enough amperage on the starter, the voltage goes too low, the ABS computer senses that and condemns it from service. Did you notice that it was cranking a little slower on the starter?

Thanks for your replies guys , I have been given a list of things to check over from fluid levels down to sensor gap so today its a case of start at the beginning and repeat actions checking everything inbetween on the way .Lets see how it goes .If no joy will have to get it on diagnostics and hope it isn't pump or anything tooo expensive

My bet is that sitting for 2 years has caused the ABS fault, be it the battery or the ABS unit itself. You can start by having the battery load tested.

My bet would be a weak battery. Good luck!

With the combination of lights I have (GEN ON ABS Flashing 4hz) indication is that I have residual braking mode in one circuit and I believe it is the front I recall that when I put front wheel back on I may have trapped the front abs sensor wire between wheel and fork post ,can anyone tell me does the self test check the sensors at start up or do they only test on drive off ? could this be my problem if I have broken the cable ?

FWIW I'd say it's easier to remove the calliper than just the pads when you're removing the wheel.
Good luck with the battery!
