BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

Mine got:

1 - Spare Schuberth SRC - since the failure rate on mine seems to rival the fuel strips. This way having a spare - it will never fail (actually one is on it's way back to Schuberth at the moment for replacement.)

2 - New set of Wunderlich muffs - the muff thingies that go on the bar ends so my hands stay warm and dry. One of my old one seemed to flap at highway speed for some reason (port side one) - eventually weakening the fabric/padding, which made it flap worse. New ones are longer and come further up the arm. I don't think they will flap.

3 - New Kwikover - the small pullover bike cover that attaches to the back of the seat and lives in a little pouch. These seem to last a year or two then the elastic on them starts stretching (and stops being springy) - I think this is #3 or #4..

4 - Michelin Europe Road Map - the most important thing. Planning a little ride in Europe next fall, and this will be great fun to lay on a table and look at.

Well, my family bought me a Kendon lift (it's supposed to arrive tomorrow) and I bought the R1200R an Excel throttle lock.

Mine got a new facelift with a Trophy fairing.

Once it had this and the turbulence was lowered to the top of my shoulders, the need for heated gear became apparent.

So...

I bought a Gerbings jacket liner with a heat controller.

Why I waited so long for heated gear I'll never know.

My R1200R must not have been very good - all it received was mirror extenders.
OTOH my /5 must have been very good because it now has a ceramic coated exhaust a new seat and new paint on some body parts.

I bought a used unpainted Parabelum Scout from a forum member last fall. It is getting a nice coat of paint to match my Granite Grey R1200R. I should have it back sometime this week. I also got a new tank bag.

Does the Roadcrafter one-piecer count? I only use it on the R, which also received mirror extenders/risers to help me see past the new yellow sleeves. It is perfect riding weather out here, crisp mornings but no need for electrics, and warm afternoons, so I am riding and riding in honor of all you guys who are sadly stuck in the epic cold. But please don't move out here: Hwy 33 was totally deserted on Sunday, and I like it that way!

My R is frequently naughty, so it got nothing. But it got a new friend in garage, a nice clean '98 Ducati 900SS/CR.

Oh wait, I forgot—the R got a Givi E55 topcase.

Mine caught a cold in it's ABS system, resulting in under tank surgery :-( Dr Module Master is in attendance.

Wifey got me her back rest in the form of the BMW top case and rack (Actually I'd been contemplating it for years for this bike and my old one so she finally pulled the trigger for me.).

Wunderlich clear hand guards, and Wunderllich highway pegs (hoping to ride to the MOA Rally in MN this summer).

Mine also got a set of the Z-Technic mirror extenders - not because of the view to the rear (narrow shoulders I guess - I never had a problem) but to make the Wunderlich muffs fit better by moving the mirror stalks to the velcro'd opening in the muffs.

Question for the people who also got these - it's too damn cold in the garage to take things apart right now (I have the heater going full blast though, and I see it's up to 42F now.. so mebbe later this afternoon..) I put on the GS auxiliary lighting switch on the left control pod on the bars. It appears the extenders may have an interference problem with this switch (despite the extenders being spec'd for the R and GS..)

Anyone else mounted theirs yet? Any problems? I'm assuming the threaded holes in them are for the mirrors (came with a total lack of instructions) and the supplied allen bolt goes into the mounting extension on the grip assembly..?

Alex - I think you're catching up to me on fuel strips (I'm on #8).. when was the last one installed? My friendly dealer service manager claimed they've had no come-backs on ones they installed since around June of 2013. He thought that perhaps BMW got the vendor to actually address the problem with the strips. Just curious when your last failing one was installed.

I got the BMW rally3 GS gloves, the best ever my pinky is a bit longer than normal so other gloves do not fit well but these are fantastic does everthing well .Highly recommended.

I just checked my records and I'm actually on #6, counting the one that was DOA when I bought the bike new. They seem to be good for about 5 months/5000 mi. Fuel strip #5 was installed on June 22, 2013. I hope #6 will last, but they are all the same p/n: 16147697815.

My R now has a nice used Parabellum Scout fairing, complete with two screens, just waiting for installation. I'll keep it off, though, until I get the bike in for the fuel pump recall. Mind you, now I'm thinking about those Wunderlich clear hand guards; hmmm....

Answering my own question - the port side mirror extender is not compatible with the GS auxiliary lighting switch. Which is a bummer since I was hoping to move the mirror stem to a position more compatible with the Wunderlich hand-muffs.

Anyone have a milling machine handy? Or a flame-jet cutter? I was thinking of modifying the extenders until I realized they are steel (go figure - seems overkill to me..) and about 1/4" thick. That's a LOT of filing.

Don,on that european trip you will be amased.Depend, what countres choosing for visit.The streets and roads are narrow.Please take that in considdaration.If you wisiting Croatian Sea board ,....that is a chin dropping.Probably one of most beautyfull places on earth.From Split to Dubrovnik driving is what every biker would like to do.I did it 17 times.If you do it 1 time,you will return to do it more times.That is the simple truth.

Just picked up an original set of Luftmiester bolt on frame braces from the early 70s for my /5. I've been waiting a while to run into a set (decades).
I had to tell someone, can't tell the wife because then I'd have to lie about what I paid for them (again). Figured you guys would understand.
They were part of the HOT setup back in the 70s but then people discovered they really didn't do much to help the handling of the SWB /5. But they look cool.
