On the way to Gettysburg...

I saw a chap on an 1150. I could swear it was a lighter blue color. It almost looked like the color I saw on a 850 (may have been an 850 for that matter). The fellow had standard black system cases on and I think a lighter colored helmet. I passed him (reasonably) on my K-R in the Cactoctin mountain section of Route 15. I gave a friendly wave and wondered if it might be any of you.

Safe riding all.

Boxer.....Boxer.....if I was running from Katrina Cup would have not passed me......but it wasn't me.....sorry.

I might still have to run from Katrina, in the meantime I got the R inside the outhouse and put the two pirogues against the front door to keep the weather out.

If it was Friday it was probably me. I could have sworn that was a K-R that passed me but couldn't be sure. If so, yours is the first K-R I've seen on the road to date. Great looking bike, long stride, great rocket. My bike is actually a silver 1150 but there is a light blue 850 I've seen in the area on occasion. If it was Saturday or Sunday it must have been someone else; don't recall any bikes passing. Anyhow, if you're from the area, I'll look for you in the future. Dave

Dave,

It was on Friday! I headed up Friday and came back on Saturday. I love that stretch through the Catoctin pass.

I knew it was a light color bike, sorry for the misread on that.

I try to get up though there at least a few times a year. I hope it was you and I see you on the road again.

P.S. Al... be safe down there in the Crescent City. I will be thinking of you and your neighbors. -R

Rich, well I'm glad that was you, and nice to meet you (kind of). That really was my major excitement for the day, spotting what I thought was a K-R. Don't worry about the color of my bike, don't really care for silver anyway but I love the bike. If I weren't so lazy, I'd have it painted dark blue with pinstriping. Yes that is a pretty stretch of road between Emmitsburg and Thurmont but I consider Rt. 15 through Thurmont to be worthy of extra caution: there can be lots of cars/trucks blasting onto the highway from entrance ramps. No one in this state seems to understand what a YIELD sign is for. In that Catoctin pass area I've also seen deer sprinting across 15 at mid-day, several times. I'm in that area almost daily, either on 15 or the back roads nearby, and I always enjoy it. Take care. Dave

To everyone in the Big Easy and surrounding area, ditto what COH said. Be safe and good luck.

Dave,

Thanks for the reminder on those intersections. I got ding-a-linged there about 12 years ago coming south in car at the college up the road there.
Every time I go up there I see at least one cager blast across 15 without really looking.

I didn't think deer would be a problem there since it is so open, but I will definitely keep a better eye out for them too.

I would love to know if there any good "side road" excursions for up that way too!

Rich, sorry to hear about your car mishap years ago in this area but better in the car than on the bike. The "college up the road" you mention would be Mt. St. Mary's, unless you mean way up the road and that would be G-burg College. The areas where I have seen deer are actually in Thurmont near where Rt. 15 intersects with Rt. 77 and Rt. 550, heavily forested on the west side of the highway. Surprised me too, broad daylight each time, not during hunting season either.
The sideroad excursions I like are really varied and I don't know road names or Rt. numbers of most, in fact, sometimes I don't know where the hell I am. I will attach a site below from Blue Ridge Road Riders with a variety of rides in the area. I've tried many of these and they are worth exploring. Some of the roads to and through the G-burg battlefield areas are nice, but slow until the tourists leave for the winter. I would have a problem with racing through the battlefield areas anyhow (sacred ground) but it is classic southern Pennsylvania in terms of scenery. Hope the site helps. Have fun, stay safe. Dave

Thanks for the info Dave!

No worries, I am a huge Civil War buff and scholar. I never race around in a battlefield.
