The Dark side.

Have 40,000 relatively painless miles on my R1150r, and now I am considering making the huge plunge into the Super Tenere ES pool. The money makes me want to vomit, but then I am seduced by electronic adjustable suspension, new everything, ride modes, off road ability, and I have had terribly good luck with every Yamaha I have owned......or should I just put another 40k on the R bike. I would love your opinions.

Why not look at a r1200 or r1200 rt? It would solve the "time for something new" itch. Have you tried any new BMW's?

I have, I like the GSA, GS, and R. While at my local dealership with a service issue I attempted to purchase a R1200r about 2 months ago, they were kind enough to offer me $500 for my R1150r against full price on their bike, as tempting as it was I decided to keep my old, apparently, worthless bike. That attitude, the frequency and cost of repairs and limited dealer network is a factor in this decision for me. I would consider a nice used BMW though.

I've got an 05 r50R with 30k and would love a new bike. But I know that is probably what I would be offered in trade so I don't even look. It would just make me mad.

yamaha builds wonderful motorcycles. Super Tenere is on my shortlist.
but also the f800gs is directly competitive. No idea on the specifics and features though...
if going off road is on definitely your agenda, I would trade. For either. go for it.

They offered you $500 for an '04 R against list on their new bike? Your response was/is very kind and gracious. I'm afraid mine would not be. That to me would be an insult and paramount to attempted theft. My probable first response would be to tell them to kiss my ass. (with a smile of course)
Next thing I'd do would be to go buy the Super Tenere (great bike btw). I'd then pen a letter to BMW Motorrad detailing my original desire to buy another BMW. I'd tell them of the attempted thievery with a smile which prompted you to consider other options resulting in the purchase of the Super Tenere. Then I'd tell BMW Motorrad to kiss my ass. Then I'd REALLY smile.
