Hello Everyone! I'm new to this board and hope I'm in the "correct" place.

I need to replace my brake pads and have been reading various "insights" as to using OEM or EBC pads? Sintered/Kevlar, blah...blah...blah.

Also, I've notice recently some comments regarding EBC pads being used
on the intergal ABS systems; such as Bob's posting a "disclaimer" that ONLY OEM pads are to be used on the intergal braking systems. Is this legitiment or just another attempt by the "Mothership" to keep us dependent on her?

So, question: Can I use EBC pads on an 02' 1150RT with ABS intergal brakes? Is so, what would be the part numbers? And any suggestions as to where I can get them? Fronts and Backs...

I have an 03 r (non-abs) that I just replaced front and rear pads. I bought them from cyclebrakes.com. Cost about $34 per rotor. ($68 front and $34 rear) (shipped)

I asked for organic pads so as to minimize rotor wear. That is apparently called Kevlar these days. The pads I received were Gaffer pads. Seem to work well and can tell no difference in stopping power

I had an '02 RT with Integral ABS, put on EBC sintered pads, no problem. I now have an '02 R, with ABS, recently put on the EBC sintered pads. They will run about $32/rotor. I got mine from bikebandit.com, received them very quickly. On the RT, I noticed great stopping improvement over the worn stock pads, of course, but they seemed to be much better than stock even when newer. I don't know the part nos., but you can find them on EBC's website.

I'm also confused about the rear brake thing. I spoke with woman a CycleBrakes.com about the Kevlar. I wasn't sure I wanted to veer from the OEM, but it seems like a good choice. I almost bought the EBC Sintered, but I remember reading somewhere that they are best for Race applications because they won't heat up enough on street usage. Any thoughts on that?

Also, to save money I want to replace the pads (rear) myself. It seems easy enough and I even have the R1150R Service Manual. I basically take off a "Keeper" clip that holds a retaining pin, and push the Pin back though the hole toward the wheel. I tried it last night, removed the clip and tried to push the pin though, but it wouldn't budge! I tried some small taps with a small hammer, and even the tiniest shot of WD40, but neither helped. All the pin would do was "click" inward just a 1/16 of an inch or less. Any advice?

I went back to OEM after trying EBC. I experimented with rear brake, only.
EBC is thinner than OEM, and wears out twice as fast as OEM. The price of OEM is about 50% more than EBC. So, in terms of $/mile, OEM is actually cheaper than EBC. Plus you save the time you spend working on it!

I couldn't get my pin out either. I fetched my husband, he took my hammer and punch and gave it a HARD lick, popped right out. I just wasn't hitting hard enough. For more details than you'll ever want to know, go to http://www.advrider.com, click on the picture that comes up, scroll all the way to the bottom and click on Wisdom. Then click on BFD -rear. That's all about changing pads on an 1150GS and covers every little step.
