I went to refuel the other day and noticed water sitting in the rim of the gas tank opening. Isn't it supposed to drain away completely? How do I fix this? There are holes there but they don't seem to work as a drain. I tried sticking a thin wire in the hole but it didn't make a difference. Finally, I just soaked it up with a paper towel.

I have same problem.

Notice the rubber seal on the lid/cap that seals the big hole is inside that area.

Any overflow of fuel or water that gets into that area around the big hole drains away and out that small hole and slots around the outside and down a small tube under the bike.

I think....some one will know for sure...I've added a pic to show the small drain hole and slots.

I have a K12RS with the same problem. Water can get into your fuel and then the bike runs poorly. Dealer replaced the brass-colored part once because it had corroded so bad. Now it is almost as bad.

I think the basic problem is the hole is too small. Pretty soon I'm going to open that hole up a good bit. I took mine apart a few days ago and I don't believe the slots do anything.

Also, check that you've can blow through the hole, in other words, make sure the drain tube is not pinched somewhere.

If you do get water in the fuel it will surge. I put some methanol (Heet is the product name) in a couple of tanks and it fixed it up.

Your plugged water drain tube must be cleaned out with a stiff small diameter wire so it doesn't allow water into the filler opening and rust the tube to a point where you won't ever be able to clear it out. There's also the possibility it's hooked up incorrectly, at the 2 male plastic hose connectors, when the fueltank was last removed.

Here's how to check if they are properly connected. Remove the 4 screws so you can take off the right side rear body panel to access the 2 small hose connectors. Unplug one of the two small hoses at the connector and blow into the part that goes to the fueltank. If it hisses up at the filler cap, the other end MUST hiss at the right footpeg when you blow into it. If its taking your lungs airflow, but seems like you are trying to inflate the fueltank and it blows back out at you after you stop blowing into it, the other end MUST go to the center port of the charcoal canister. The other infrequent possibility is that one of the tank side hoses is plugged solid - - - that identifies it as a debris or rust clogged fuel filler rim water drain and must be wire cleaned out, then blown out from the top with a rubber tiped blowgun.

I just copied and pasted the above paragraph into a text file so I can regurgitate it again the next time the hose mix-up fix is needed.
