I know that this has been all over the place... but I finally bit the bullet and found a lower cost full size left case at my local indie beemer shop, took off the silencer can, bought a decent looking tip and installed a full size case. Folks, this is an amazing convenience improvement. The full case and sound improvement bring a big smile to my face everytime I ride the bike. Seriously look into it!

Owen - is there more than meets the eye on the bracket?

I mean - do you have a flat plate of aluminum that ties both brackets together on the inside of the case or are the two pieces of aluminum all that you have?

Nice job....now get that bike a wheel-cap....

Also..about trusting the little screw to hold the exhaust tip on..I didn't trust it..I cut a slot underneath and put a clamp on it..keep an eye on it.

I jiggle it fairly often... it hasn't come lose yet. BUT, if it did, and if it came off... I'd be out $5. I'm not gonna skip meals in order to replace an exhaust tip



Thanks for the inspiration DJ. also, I ended up getting a great deal on the speedster screen and generally like it, but thanks for the info on the F-GS screen!

Nope, Nothing more then what sits before ya there. No tying them together on the inside, although, it wouldn't be a bad idea...

I've lost two shiny chromed exhaust tips, and working on my third. I would frequently give it a wiggle-check and next thing I knew, it's gone. Currently I have more of a straight one on until I find one with a slight curve, then I'll do the DJ exhaust-tip mod - cut a slit and put a band clamp on.

Did you use rivets to re-connect the lid to the case? What size?

How'd you place your L-brackets? Just mount it up and mark the case?

No, there was no lid switching... not yet, at least. but when I do, I'll probably use screws and think about some city lids.

yep, that about sums it up. I was careful to make sure that it looked like the right case from the back, but otherwise it was a drill, screw and go procedure.

Imo you should sandwich the case with two alum flat
pieces for the feet of the L bkts

What size of pipe that you use ?

Does it sound good or is it just like a car without a muffler ?

I'm running the Remus Y-pipe into my lowered stock muffler. It sounds a little lower and louder. Not much though. I fired it up with just the Y-pipe and decided that was the way to go, but didn't have a Harley slash-cut straight pipe thingies so I put the stock one back on. You get a pop once in a while if you close the throttle all the way. I think the y-pipe into stright would be great for going on one of those Harley runs. An interesting note here. I reinstalled the CCP and find the surging is no worse then before. I got better mileage before I removed it and wanted to try it again.

I did the same thing with exhaust on my R when I installed a full sized left case. The muffler shop put a tack weld on the side of the tip, facing the wheel. It looks good, it sounds great and it won't come off unless I take a roto tool to it and grind the weld off. After running the bike with no tip at all for a couple weeks, I knew I was never going to take the tip off, once installed anyway. I doubt I will need to use that roto tool in the future. I love the sound of the bike, it sounds like a motorcycle should now.

Someone will have to correct me on this... but I'm pretty sure the cat outlet diameter is 1.75", so my tip might have been around 2'. It fit quite well. It was another of those times when I was all excited to go out to the garage, fire up the radio and spend some quality time with my bike. I probably spent more time opening the garage door and turning on the lights. Really, it takes all of 15minutes to snatch the can off, you should try it. I guarantee the lack of noise will startle you. It's quite civilized. My order of reasoning behind this mod looked like this:

I would like to get a exhuast pipe and paint it black !

This might look ok , but i need a paint with good colour
that can handle the heat !

If you are using screws only, try re-tightening them when the pipe is hot.
