When I click on a link in a post (pics of someone putting on bars or some such) the link opens fine but the main page in the back ground closes and brings me back to the desk top!
I've scanned, rebooted, cursed, kicked and ranted.....nothing works.
Any ideas?
I'm using XP2 and I'm a dolt computer-wise.

Well...I may be a computer dolt BUT..."them that hides can find says I!"
This is bizarre.
I Googled the symptoms and one site said go to Regional Settings and Language in Control Panel and ultimately remove "Speech Recognition".
Damn if it didn't work!
As an aside, last night I updated to Acrobat Reader 7.03 and included was Adobe Tool bar. Thinking the problem was there I deleted back to 7.0.
Only then and after deleting Speech Rec did the Adobe tool bar show up.
I duffed that too.
There are enough mysteries in my life!
Any and all comments wil still be appreciated though.

It's a virus....my daughters laptop was doing the same thing....even the virus scans would not pick it up...I had a friend re install xp and he told me it had a virus...and that was causing the problem.

A number of spamware cause things like that.
Run Spybot and Ad-Ware (lavasoft.com)
Those two will find almost everything.

You are still using IE !!!
Go download Firefox from
http://www.mozilla.org
Have you installed MS spyware/adware new software?
If not. MS has a beta downloadable (still free), it works on many known virii, malware etc.

popgazer...I use Firefox too, but now the hackers have set their sights on Mozilla and they don't have the resources like Microsoft! Many faults have been found quite easily in Firefox and you can expect to see updates from them quite often in the near future.
We have been switching to firefox in droves and the hackers know that.
so beware...

There's also Netscape... Hackers have a soft spot for Netscape, since the Microsoft IE juggernaut tried to crush it.

Still, the difference between open source and closed source is that flaws are discovered first by programmers who are helping to build the applications. With open source, those programmers announce the bug and provide the fix with it. In most cases with MS software, the vulnerabilities were discovered and exploited by hackers.
Also. IE was built with the intention of letting web sites automatically download and install applications without the user's intervention (i.e. knowledge). Windows update application uses this feature.
That "feature" is what most adware, spyware trojans etc. exploit. It is a bad design.
Firefox does not have such a "feature", so at least, you can't catch a virus from using it. You can download whatever and run it at your own risk, but ff won't do it while you are kept in the dark.

And of course there is "Safari". You'll need one of these to run this browser, however.
