Bikes without seats

For the first time ever...the worlds best trials riders have come downunder to compete and it was right in my back yard..well almost. :D

The BMW motorcycle club of Victoria had arranged a club ride today (Sunday) and they were going to ride up to where the competition was.

I thought I would tag along and check out the action...I've always been a big trials fan..but never seen a competition..I was looking forward seeing it.

We meet at a big Shell petrol station near the West Gate bridge at 7.30am...and what a perfect day it was...warm and sunny... :smt023

While waiting for everyone to arrive I took a couple of pics.

Image

Here's one for you Dave (Darth)...nice bike don't you think?. :D..just like your black triple right?

Image

I took this pic for you Dean (Dean-O)...thought you might like it................just stirring ya.. :D

Image

We had about a three hour ride north west to central Victoria to get there...after about two hours we stopped for a stretch and for a bite to eat.

Image

This was my snack..a home made apple muffin and strawberry jam tart with a nice cold coke....mmmmm!

Image

Once we got to where the comp was the road turned to dirt...it was like finding a secret spot...hidden in the hills...and it was.. :D (near a place called Bendigo)

Image

Image

Image

Parked nearby was one of those new Ducati's that got a serious wack with the ugly stick IMHO.......what's with that turning screen?

Image

Image

Once we got in to where the event was there were bikes everywhere...."All without seats"....even the pushies didn't have seats..

Image

Image

Image

Image

We'd only been there a few minutes when they introduced the worlds top riders to the crowd...here they are...there were some Aussies there.. :D

Once the competition started we followed them around from one section to the next...I've never been to the golf..but I guess it's much the same.

The first section was these plastic water tanks..and if you look to the right of the last pic there's a section called the kennels..no dogs in them. :D

Image

Image

Image

Image

The next section was these piles of wood...this guy took the quick way down from the top...I thought he was going to land on me..

Image

The next lot of pics are from the other natural sections...they were very technical...which in my book means 'you gotta be kidding'.. :D

Me just having a 'nature break'..as they say in the Tour De France.. :D

Image

After a big day watching and hearing the crowd go...Oooh! and Arrr!...it was time to hit the road for the long haul home.

Stopped to take a pic and almost stood on a roadkill fox..nice eyes..they were gone..

Image

Image

Roo signs are everywhere...hit one of these Skippy's at full speed and you'll know it...right Kieth..

Image

Image

Image

A few hours later and it was home sweet home.. :D

Hope you liked my pics...I rushed it a bit...the Moto Gp is about to start...

I looking at these while it is grey and wet outside in the UK! Well I least got a decent ride yesterday.

Great stuff DJ, thanks!
You need to catch a ride on that Speed Triple...
I've always thought the trials riders were the most skilled motorcycle competitors of all, absolutely incredible what these guys can do. Total mastery of machine & terrain.
And wasn't that little Gas Gas just lovely?!

PS - And thanks for sparing us more details from your "nature break" and more road-kill shots!

Some quick points...

Terrific pics, DJ... As always! :smt023

But a couple of quick points... :-k

1.) Where are your usual babes, breast, and booty pictures? :smt026

2.) Please, no more road kill pics... Better to have babe pics... 8-[

3.) Man, those trials guys are fantastic, aren't they? But were any of them shapely sheilas, or did any of the factory guys have scantily clad umbrella girls? \:D/

4.) Did you see any good-looking young ladies taking "nature breaks", and if so, how come no pictures of them? :smt017

5.) Looks like a great muffin and jam tart, but where are the cute little "muffin" waitresses and other skin-exposing "tarts" that you usually get great shots of? :smt031

Still, looks like a fun time and a great ride!

Thanks!

Wow!, those are amazing motorcycle trials pictures. It looks like you guys got a real treat seeing some big technical sections being ridden. Reminds me of the days when i used to ride bike trials a lot. Beautiful shots of everything.

Thanks Mike...the new camera was great (canon ixus 40)...no lag when taking an action shot.

Hey KeV...re. those dog kennels (right side of this pic)..there were 3 or 4 of them lined up..and they had to ride over them...or hop from one to the next...
I didn't get a pic of that..sorry.. but it looked hard to do..geees..it all looked hard to do.. :D

Yes Dave...that little Gas Gas was a beaut...I remember the Bultaco Sherpa T...and the old Montessa's..good to see they're still going strong.

btw...a lot of these guys were riding four strokes for the first time.

I saw something not long ago about an electric trials bike that will be very competitive...how are they going to make that sound good.. :?:

Dallara...sorry I let you down with the girlie pics...no umbrella girls..nothing...it was very much a family day type of event..and lots of children..
btw..they (the kids) were also competing..I don't know why I didn't take any pics of them..they were pretty good.

It was all very casual...find a rock to sit on...or in my case...a tree to sit in... :D ...and enjoy the show.

As usual, nice pics DJ.

Trials riders have got to be among the most skilled riders in the world. And the craziest. :P

No worries, DJ...

As always, great pics from you along with your talent for making us feel like we are there, too. Wish I had been along!

Thanks!

DJ,

Great stuff. Great pics. Must have been a good time, despite the lack of "crumpet".

I watched the trials competition in Holbrook (Arizona) a couple of weeks ago. Although there were only a couple of nationally ranked riders, they were very impressive.

Nice pics!

As usual DJ you've presented a great pictorial record of the day's events.
I wish I'd have been able to go.

Fabulous photographic journal.

I had a Yamaha TY250 Trials bike back in the 70's. Ssshhh can't imagine being able to put it through her paces now tho. I spent most of my weekends in the bush, finding things to conquer.
