Decal removal?

Whats the best way to remove unwanted decals from the tank without harming our matt finish? I've read that WD-40 works well to remove the sticky gunk but wanted to check here first.

I removed the Servo Assisted brake sticker from the tank with the judicious use of a heat gun, my thumb nail and WD40. Not a mark on the tank afterwards but you need to be careful. And it took forever. Don't be tempted to use car polish to remove the final traces of gunk as you will make a shiny patch.

I removed the green stripes with my fingernail and goo-gone.

I got mine off with my fingernail while waiting for stoplights to change....took a couple of weeks, but it gave me something to do while stopped.
BUT, my friend tried Goo Gone or Goof Off, and now he has missing paint...if that stuff gets under one of the coats of paint it will bubble and spread....BE CAREFUL!!!

Might sound silly, might not work (I have never removed decals), but when I have to remove a sticky substance I try rubbing it with ice first. Tends to make the "goo" ball up and not adhere to the original surface well-even cloth.
Like I said, don't know if it works on decals. But it's a cheap "try" and doesn't risk your paint.

a hairdryer used carefully can assist with removing stuck-on stickers (and how else are stickers stuck other than being sticky?
)
