Happy Thanksgiving
Heres wishing everyone a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving

No Turducken in my house tomorrow!
I have a fresh turkey laid in. Sweet potatoes. Mashed Potatoes. Turnip. Green beans. Yorkshire Pudding (yeah I know it goes best with Roast Beef but I love it!). Cranberry sauce. Turkey gravy. Pumpkin pie.
My wife leaves for work at 6:30. My kids leave for school at 7:15. That is when I start prepping the meal. And along the way I plan on the occasional beer. The occasional scotch. Catching Detroit and Atlanta at 12:30. Dallas and who (?) at 16:30. And then the family home for our second celebration of Thanks this year.
In Canada we celebrate our Thanksgiving in October. And we give Thanks for the great country we live in. It has its faults. All our countries do. But we are indeed fortunate to have the freedoms, the prosperity, and the opportunity that Canada has to offer.
For the past 5 years I have chosen to celebrate American Thanksgiving as well. At first it was a great excuse to watch NFL Football. But as a graduate of American History (BA with Honours and Distinction - shameless self promotion!!!) I realize it is more than that. I do it to honour a country, that along with England, has done more to bring democracy and civility to this world than perhaps any other country on the globe. To give for thanks for sharing a continent with the world's true super power. Sure we in Canada may feel like a mouse sleeping beside an elephant sometimes, but there could very easily be worse neighbours in this world. To give thanks for a country that cares enough to be there for others when the chips are down. We can point to countless disasters around the world where the US has stepped in and helped. Regardless of the political persuasion or position of the governments they deal with. When Quebec hydro was flattened by the ice storm a few years back, American crews came to help restore service. Just like Canadian crews went to restore power in the wake of Katrina and Ophelia.
I have much to be thankful for living beside the United States of America. And tomorrow, as the turkey cooks, as I hoist my drink, and as I prepare for that first kick off, I will think of the peace, security, and prosperity I enjoy precisely because of America. And I will give thanks.

Counting my blessings
It occurs to me on this morning, as it does on most mornings, that I have an abundance to be thankful for:
- - A beautiful, loving, and understanding wife
- A loving and supporting family, although most live far away and I see them too seldom
- A really nice house, where everyone feels comfortable
- A good job which I commute to by motorcycle, year-round
- Good health, without which not much is possible
- Great friends, who would do most anything for me
- The hospitality of my adopted home country, the United States, where I consider myself a guest
- A stable, sure-footed, and stone reliable motorcycle
- This board, always a quality source of entertainment and advice

Life Is Good
Snow day today. School buses cancelled. My 14 year old and 17 year old daughters stay home. Mom goes off to work.
I sit here smelling the turkey cooking. Sweet potatoes roasting. And everything else getting ready. I am sipping on a Moosehead, annoyed at how easily Atlanta is running over Detroit. And my girls are sitting here with me enjoying my fun. A glass of Merlot awaits my wife's arrival. My R sits in the garage warmly plugged in to a battery tender.
Life truly is good.
