chopping rear splash guard

I am looking for opinions on removing the rear splash guard right below the liscense plate. It has bugged me for awhile and its time to go so I can expose more of our perty tire and get rid of the euro plate frame in the process.. Any recommendations for making the cut. I was thinking of a coping saw...

I cut mine all the way up to the bottom of the license plate light/brake light and around the sides as high as I could reach without compromisng the turn signals and wiring. Fashioned a new license plate bracket from angled metal shelf stays- that are invisible behind the tag. I'ved got a pic here somewhere to post...

Yeah Greetz...looks very nice. Pity you are stuck with those truck-sized license plates!
I just marked mine with chalk and made cuts with a Dremel tool & 'abrasive cut-off disc.
The raw edge can be smoothed with a knife edge, file or sandpaper.
Or with a small open flame if you are very careful. (I'm not kidding)

I used the darthrider technique! Only I used a saber saw with a fine blade. Filed it smooth and installed a license plate frame.
Looks good but MikeCam said I threw water and road grime all over him when he rode behind me!

I did mine about a month ago. I really like the way it looks, but I just noticed my jacket has dirty water spots all over the back. Oh well. No going back now. I still have no regrets.

so if you chop it to the bottom of the plate frame, you may get road grime/water on ur back??
isn't the remaining fender enough to block it?

What I remember about riding behind Vann is how much he fidgets when he rides!
But yes, the bobbed tail leads to a bit more spray fling for those behind you and the rooster tail (but I cannot understand how it flies forward off the back tire...)

I liked the pictures, Greetz. Unfortunately (in the UK at any rate), not having a reflector on the rear of the vehicle is actually an offence so if I performed that, I'd need to put another reflector on somewhere.
Just out of interest, in my R manual, it says that there is an extendable portion below the splash guard. My bike doesn't appear to have one of those. Is it standard equipment or is mine just missing?

They fall off. Unless you catch them before and put better screws in. Like you, mine was just gone one day. Never knew it was missing until I went to look at it.

Mine's been in there for nealy two years now on the standard screw.

Our license plates are huge reflectors - do yours reflect?

They do indeed. We have yellow rear licence plates here but the law requires a
red reflector to be fitted to the rear of the vehicle.

Mine sure do also (see this pic that I took today)...I'm not sure if in Oz you have to have a red reflector on the rear..I think we do.
I do know that we don't need the side ones that come on the US bikes.
