First Ever "BMW" Group Ride

Post by houndog »

I just had to share this. Yesterday I wen't on my first mostly BMW group ride. I have ridden bikes for a few years now (mostly cruisers) and have traveled with groups (mostly cruisers) and really didn't enjoy it too much other than the noise and looks. So I haven't been into riding with large groups of people, untill now.
The ride started about 20 miles from where I live in East Texas. There were about 20 bikes, mostly Beemers, a Gold wing, 2 V stroms, and one gratuitus Harley Sporster (He didn't finish the ride). I went with my Father in law who had ridden with this group before and he informed me that they ride at a conservative pace and space themselves well, so I thought no problem. When the ride started I realized my idea of conservative and his were two different things. We were a long snake of speed. I have never had so much fun. The ride wasn't so fast that I was out of my comfort zone, but it was fast enough to challenge me. (I had the shakes so bad at the end of the ride I couldn't read my menu at the resturant. :p
We rode about 2 hrs and traveled a little over 100 miles according to my tac. The roads were mostly well paved light trafficed FM roads (State Roads for you non Texans) :) The weather started out in the upper 60's and finished at 81. The wind was the only problem, it gusted to 20mph at times according to the weather man.
All in all it was one of the most fun experiances I have ever had fully clothed in safety gear. I cannot wait untill the spring when there will be rides a plenty to join in on. Hopefully I can meet some of you fine folks on future rides.

See ya,
Tommy
(P.S. I'm still shaking from the ride)

Excellent report houndog! Now you know the difference in "cruising" and "motorcycle riding". 8)

group rides

I have a hard time finding a compatible group to ride with, so I ride by myself alot. Which is why I have enjoyed the two Beakster Bashes and camping get togethers with board members so much. Now those are some fun groups!
