System case required parts question

I've decided to add the hard bags to my R1150R. Here as best I can determine are the required parts...what am I missing?
Then you need a dealer to get the lock set? And they can be keyed to your bike key...correct?
Are the "inner bags" worth the $$$ ? Seems like they would be but I'd like to hear opinions.

I think you should give the inner bags a miss and get the little rack that goes between the two case mounting rails..I think the rack finishes it off nicely.
You can buy some cheap bags that will fit inside the cases for a few dollers..the BMW ones are very expensive.
Also have you considered getting a full size left case...the cut out for the exhaust almost halves the space.

What would be good alternatives to the BMW inner bags?
And I have considered the full size case for the left side...don't know if my Staintune can be remounted to accomodate though.

Staintune make an exhaust lowering kit for their exhaust that fits our bike so you can use a full size left case.
Do you still have the cat in place?...if you do..you could do what I've done.

As for bags...there's heaps out there...we have these cheap $2 shops here...they'd have something that will fit.
You just need to take a case in and try a few to see which fit...avoid straps that hang off the bag or cut them off.

Thanks...now I see to what you refering.
Regarding the Staintune, I also have their cat elim box as well as the pipe. I'll check on the lowering kit.

I agree with DJ's advice not to waste money on the inner bags. I use a small nylon bag from wally world on the right side and some stuff sacks in the smaller left case. Total cost was less than $15.
For what it's worth, I decided not to lower the muffler and use a full size case on the exhaust side for 3 reasons. 1) It is not likely that I will be doing any 2-up touring, so I don't really need the extra space. 2) I often leave the cases home and think the Roadster looks better with the upswept muffler than the lowered can. 3) It is easier to remove the rear wheel with the stock setup.

Mark - 2 good options - Bob's BMW in Jessup MD will sell you the whole set of gear at a discount. Send them your key and the bags will come back keyed for you. Go to their website and download the pdf catalog luggage pages.
Or, call Chicago BMW - 20% off, I think a bit cheaper than Bob's, but you may have to come up with all the P/N's yourself.

the first two are legit, i shoulda just bought the factory rack with my cases when i bought the bike... it looks great and does help with strapping stuff on the back. but the sidecases and their rails mounted and worked just fine without it for the 3 months i rode used them prior to the rack being mounted...

It helps to have the part numbers when ordering from Chicago BMW but if you phone them, they will walk you through things and get you the right parts.
I agree with "needing" the rack. Though it's actually pretty worthless for carrying anything (small and limited to 15 lbs or so), it mates perfectly with the system case rails and make the bike look finished.
As far as the codeable lockset goes, the directions enclosed are poorly written and illustrated. The process involves inserting different sized parts (a tab) and miniscule springs in the tumbler. You fit the tabs by trial and error until you get the right sized in place (the tab will fit flush with the outside of the tumbler when the key is turned if it's the right size). What isn't at all clear is that you actually don't fill all the spaces in the tumbler. That drove me crazy for a few hours until I posted a question on this board and found out that you leave the one on top unfilled (that part is not at all clear in the instructions). Basically, it is an easy process made difficult by unclear directions. Might be worth paying a bit more for someone else to do it, especially if you're not patient.

Thanks for recommendations. I have purchased a few things from chicago BMW when I had the part #s. If Bob's can do the "turn key" deal, I may just go with them and save the hassel.
I think I'll get the rack as well...but maybe later...this is some serious $$$ to spend...but the (very good) soft luggage I have (Tour Master) just isn't safe enough.

I thought, based on my faulty memory, that the case mounts screwed through the luggage rack to the bike. That is how I remember it, and that is how the parts fiche shows it. However, it sounds like other people use the case mounts without the luggage rack. I assumed that the luggage rack helped to support the case mounts, but I guess that is not the case.
I already had a luggage rack for the Stealth back rest, so it was a moot point for me.
