Stebel Nautilus Compact air horn... 139 db. Installed today. It's so lovely to have an electrical whiz in the household.

Man that sucker is LOUD!!! Really does sound like a diesel train engine's horn. High, dual toned and BIG!




Lovin' it!!! Now just need to retouch the paint on the paralevers from an 'oopsie' when we installed the PIAA lights, then I can re-install the tank.

Yah, keeping all my mods to 'bolt on' since its a limited ed.

Saving the OEM horn in my 'bike bits' box. It is soooo pitiful looking compared to the Nautilus.

Is it a direct wire-in, or do you need a relay? (I can't find any power requirement specs on the site.)

Came with a relay, and a picture diagram of what should get connected to what. No other instructions.

We just put it where the old horn was... hubby is an electrical engineer, so the 'spaghetti' was no trouble for him.

Lion Lady, at 139 db's I can easily see how this unit could prevent accidents - and possibly save lives. Thanks for sharing this info! I'm going to get one. How long did the operation take your hubby? Was it a fairly straightforward install by following the supplied directions?

Ummm. I wouldn't call what came in the package "Directions" per se. It was a little piece of paper with some lines on it running from different parts of the horn to the relay, etc. Made NO sense to me. However, hubby is an electrical engineer and I gather that anyone who knows electrical diagramming could figure it out.

We did have to create a bracket. This horn is so much bigger than the stock horn that it would not attach the same way. We were able to use the same anchor point, though.

Used an angle bracket (about 3" each leg, with two holes already in both legs) from Home Depot. Basic 1/2 inch wide galvanized(?) metal. Bent the angle to about 85 degrees (tighter than 90). Cut one leg off just at the first hole, used the longer leg as the anchor point for the included relay.

One reason I LOVE "Tech days" that my club has. I could have taken the horn to a Tech Day session, and someone who HAS a clue could have helped me figure it out. We've had 'electrical' tech days where folks bring all the auxilliary lighting and switches, etc. for help with installation.

As a last resort, I'm sure that whomever you pay to do work on your bike could do the install.

I received the exact same horn for x-mas and it's waiting to be installed.

The electrical stuff is a breeze for me, so that's not a problem, but I'm waiting to get some running lights so I can do all the electrical stuff at the same time... Don't want to take that tank off more times then I need to!

I hear that these horns sound like death raining down from above... I'm wicked excited to set some abscent minded driver straight...

There is another neat option....for those that don't have ABS equipped bikes, under the tank in place of the ABS.

It replaces the OEM horn, cleans the front, is louder than anything else and costs $15 + the pleasure of the installation. I loved mine.

I'be been wishing I could do the installation of one of these horns, but I'm "mechanically" challenged...

I also want to change my battery, but I've heard so many stories of the gas connectors breaking that I'm now even scared of doing this myself...

It would be great if all the Rocksters could get together one day and help each other connect/install/change stuff, wouldn't it?!

Don't panic, I'm sure there are several board contributors around your area that can lend you a hand. BTW, engine wise the R1150R and the Rockster are alike so the same applies to both.

Put a call out for help.....and do change the fuel quick conects.

It's not that hard, but I appreciate you need to have the confidence to get started - I chopped the stock connectors of the end of my original horn & soldered on the spade connectors you need for a Stebel.

15-minute job, including 7-mins looking for the solder ...
