Ok,

I am modifying the subframe. The aim is to have it as clean as possible and it will be a single seat (no pillion).

There are 2 bits, a mount point and tab and I have no idea what they are for or if they need to stay. Any explanations are much valued.

1 - Right hand side, 60mm or so behind the pannier mounting point is another mount pointing point. It is about 15mm square. The bolt goes in from the roadside and upwards toward the frame. There is nothing on it.... whassit for?

2 - In the triangle area (above the seat/helmet lock mechanism) A curved tab... it goes down and hooks forward toward the front of the bike. Nothing attaches to it and nothing hangs off it. Does anyone know what it does? Or why it is there?

I think this has come up before....at least the curved tab. No one at the time had any real knowledge on what it could have been for and we do know it is useless to open a beer bottle!

Bungee hook mounting points? - well that what I use them for!

BMW's are used by police departments all over the globe a lot of specialty equipment is mounted on these bikes in this use, I suspect this may be the case for these unknown mounting points .

Could you post photos? I can't visualise them.

The first MIGHT be the mount bolt for the fuel-breather-charcoal-cannister?

I recall the conversation about the loop on the left side of the bike...but can't visualize the tabs on the right. My bike is currently put away for the winter and of course it's tight up against the garage wall on the right side. I tried to look but can't get enough clearance to see anything.

Charcoal canister. If that were the case they were never used in Australia and that would explain why there is nothing on it.

I suppose I should stop prevaricating and act. Nothing is mounted to it and my aim to build a more 60's / 70's style frame to support a more old school look.
