All, I have a 2002 r1150r. I'm looking for a tank bag recommendation. I've heard Marsee is good. Are there any bags that are specifically good on the R? I don't need the angled design since the tank doesn't really slope down that much.

Marsee are excellent. I prefer the magnetic ones over the strap type. I highly suggest them... Rick

I've got a Marsee on my F650GS and really like it. Durable, expandable. It is the teardrop 20 liter, I think.

I'm hoping to seal a deal on an '04 R and these look pretty cool, but only know what is on the Twistedthrottle site:

The BMW tank bag is made for the bike and doesn't interfere with the handlebar. Excellent quality, plenty of room, large map window. Easy on and off. Pricey.

I have a Held magnetic bag that is OK for light items, but wouldn't stay put when I loaded it up with my usual tank bag stuff.

In the past the company sold them on ebay for a discounted price (I think he's trying to get his product marketed). I think I paid $55 total for it and I was really impressed with the quality and features. Bang for the buck, it can't be beat! If you want known good quality, but less $$$ than the BMW bag then go Marsee - they make good stuff. Of course the BMW bag is really nice and really expensive, but it was MADE for our bike!

I too use the Marsee teardrop and it is a good bag. But they don't make a rain cover that actually fits it. I plan for that with how I pack the tankbag. Camera and phone in watertight boxes and a big zip lock for stuffing the extra gloves, etc.

It is magnetic and stays put fine.

Been using a $65 Chase Harper on 2 different bikes now for 7 years. Works great. Magnets are so good I can put it sideways on the tank to fill up. I lost the strap long ago.

There are as many flavors of bags as there are riders.
Find your price point, and compare features.

I love my Oxford Humpback Magnetic bag. It's expandable, never moves at speed, has lots of nooks & crannies and side pockets for stashing stuff, has a great map pocket, plus inner pockets, and comes with a clear rain cover, a grab handle for easy carrying, and detachable shoulder strap for slinging it. I've had a Cortech (tourmaster) magnetic bag for 3-4 years-
It holds on the 1150 tank, has an expansion zipper to increase it's capacity.
The rain cover fits well & its easy to take with you when you get off the bike, has a good map pocket on top. Its 11.5" x 5" x 8" works great for day trips & around town.

I posted this a while back. Sierra Trading Post has some Marsee bags on closeout. Great deals. Maybe one will work for you.

I've been using the Big Mak tank bags on all my oilheads for the last five years. Nothing touches your paint and it's easy on/off.

I just got a Cortech Super Mini magnetic for those occasions where a small tankbag will do the job. Easier to lug around with you when you leave your bike.

I like the looks of that Oxford bag!

I was planning on buying an after market tank bag for my 04 R1150R. Stopped in at the dealer in Columbus, OH last month and they were closing out the R tank bag at under $200. The bag is a good value at that price.

I have a 02 (black) Roady also. I have the Mr. Pockets Marsee bag, with magnetic mounts. I love it, tons of room and easy to reach pockets. I got mine right up the street from you at Moto Market in Maynard on 119. The owner (Paul) will let you try the fit on your bike before you buy it. It is worth a look before you buy...

I never was a fan of tankbags, mostly because of the bulky looks. The practicality of one is hard to overlook. I first saw one of these last fall and just had to have one. Don't use it for commuting, but for day trips without the cases it can't be beat.

The other day a guy on a V-Strom approached me while we were gassing up in Fancy Gap just of the Blue Ridge Parkway. He showed me his SW-Motech "Daypack" bag with locking gas cap ring. I'll have to say that is also a pretty slick setup, but still the Cortech might hold more without being bulkier.

I second the Chase Harper. Excellent price, excellent magnets. Big and expandable, good features and LARGE map pocket. I have used this bag at long distance and high speed, no problems.

I like the stick-to-the-side-of-the-tank for gas ups also.

Thanks. Yes, that's my next stop. I will usually give Paul my business unless he doesn't have specifically what I'm looking for. Good to know he's got Marsee.
