well this weekend i purchased my dream car [ a 2004 pontiac GTO 350 hp] D.J will like the fact that its produced in austrailla.
i got a sweet deal on it with only 4000 miles on it i basicly saved about 11ooo bucks and probably because gas is 3.00 plus a gallon there only making these cars for 3 years, and the us only recieved about 18000 units per year, the car is basicly a 4 seater corvette, anyway to convince the wife for this purchase i told her ill possibly sell the R and most the family was preety happy about that so i have a perfect 2004 blk with many upgrades and only 12000 miles and recently serviced with all new brakes and tires and still have all the stock parts also which ill be posting in the buy and sell with pics. unless i can come up with a good excuse to the wife to keep it

Have you considered keeping both the new car and the Roadster, and selling the wife??

Congrats on the new ride! I love those cars. There is a fellow in the neighborhood who has one with aftermarket pipes.. It sounds amazing!

The GTO is built off of the australian holden and I think another car in europe shares the platform.. the name escapes me. I've driven it a few times. Great fun!

BTW, you are allowed to stick around sans R!

There is a way to keep both. I know, because my husband used these methods successfully a few times. Here is what you do. You "say" you are going to sell the R, but you procrastinate. In the meantime, you tighten up the budget in other areas or make sacrifices that affect only you and during the procrastination time, the family sees that it is possible to keep both, or they completely forget about it because of the time lapse. And, during the procrastination time you make opportunities to show the advantage of keeping both. Make a big display of it too. It helps if your kids/family are busy with other things - their attention span concerning the bike will be short.

Another option, (and I find this one worked the best-or at least I liked this one the best), is to shower your wife with gifts or TIME and ROMANCE (if $ is the issue) and PROVE the R is not as important to you as she thinks it is, and certainly not as important as she is to you. Soon the focus if off the R and it is now on how happy you are together. And they should all live happily ever after - car, bike, husband/wife, and family. It's a win/win method.

We've had the Holden Monaro here since 1968...my best friends Dad had one..oooh it sounded nice..(I was about 12yrs old)



It's just in the last few years that the Monaro has gone to the US under the Pontiac badge.

For the US market they changed the front grill...I like the Aussie one on the left..



Congrats on the new car....but you will need to keep your RR for those solo trips to save $$$..(on fuel)

Gasoline is forecast to rise above the $3.00 mark this summer (we actually surpassed this briefly very recently, but came back down just as quickly). That's CA, perhaps happening elsewhere as well?

Of all my bikes, the worst gas mileage I am getting is 40mpg average. I'm wondering what your cars are getting (my truck hovers around 17mpg). At 3+ bucks per at the pump, I'm 2-wheelin' it as much as possible!

Kristi, I've ridden over 1/2 my life and been single all of it. One close call, and sometimes I miss the intimacy... which can be remedied by a nice ride in the country.

Well good luck dragging ass! If I know your wife like I think I know your wife you better enjoy the short amount of time you have left with your R.

Folks the reason he has been married twenty one years is when she says do something it better get done or else all 5'3" of her 100lb frame will be all over you in a heartbeat!

I hope you can find away to keep the bike bro....it is my believe that you will be lost with out your time away from the world on two wheels.

actually, socal, I hope you do stick around who else can type as if it is some kinda code, what with the no caps no puncuation.
But, that goat is the real deal (the ausy $ xchange makes for a steal). I think you need to keep the R though, - the GTO's magic is limited to the 'enclosed' thrill - not exactly the same as the 'in your face' you experience from the R. - besides, your just gettin' it almost where you want it and you might miss it more than you can know right now -see if you can swing both.

P.S. - I'm lookin' at an '05 my damn self!

Car5 is very cool but its going to be alot more expensive to replace that R than to just keep her. You'll most likely only get $2-3K, gosh, maybe only $1,500. Better keep her.

shes been taking it to work [the gto] this week and is falling in love with it ,so if i can convince her that its our toy and not mine then i might have a better chance to keep the R , after all whats hers is hers and whats mine is half hers

on a seriuos note its not the financial reason to get rid of the bike it was a barganing tool used to obtain the car
the R is paid for, but its the fact that having two toys sometimes makes me feel like im taking advantage of something. of what i dont know , i have been blaming it on a midlife crisis but the crisis has been going on for about 3 years now does it ever end
and in some ways i hope not

This is the approach I used with my wife: get her to ride too. She fell in love with riding and now we have his/hers (F650 and R1150R). True love lives
